Reid sat on his couch gnawing at his thumbnail, belt already strapped around his arm in preparation, while he stared at the needle of Dilaudid. Dare he take it? He had the night before, just to sleep, and now the drug was calling to him again. It helped the pain; remnants of fear and regret from the Henkel case….it helped make all those bad thoughts fade into a heavenly calm that allowed long needed rest and relaxation to occur.
He grabbed and slid the needle into his vein letting the liquid escape in. It was official. He was an addict.
