The seamstress was still working on the fit of the gown so, rather than turn around, Emily simply looked at her mother through the reflection in the mirrors. “And why is that?” She was always wary of her mother’s compliments; they tended to be backhanded.
“You’re so bold sometimes. It’s like you don’t even care what people will think.”
“Excuse me?” Emily’s eyes narrowed some.
“Well, sweetie…you’re wearing white.”
