pinkfluffies who needs extra fluffiness this season~ *HUGS* i started it on Junsu's birthday... and i finished it on yours! :D *chu* a birthday kiss for you!
Some time ago in the Dong Bang Shin Ki household, one of the boys, and if you asked them now no one would admit to it, started the tradition of the “Birthday Kiss”. On your birthday, the tradition stipulated, you were to receive at least one kiss from each of the other members. The kiss had to be while you were awake, while the kisser was awake, and had to be on the lips (because the members kissed each other on the cheek all the time, and on national television to boot). Tongue was, of course, optional.
Although… Jaejoong had been insisting for the past three years that tongue was mandatory.
Then again, Jaejoong had also once insisted on Yoochun’s 20th birthday that kisses placed on other body parts ought to count as birthday kisses too.
Yoochun had vehemently opposed that proposal as he felt that Jaejoong’s infamous stealth!elbow-cleavage!kiss really wasn’t a present for anyone other than Jaejoong himself. Precisely because it involved tongue.
After what ended up being an out and out brawl involving all five members over the “other-body-part” issue on Junsu’s 20th birthday, Yunho finally put his foot down and said that Birthday Kisses were *Birthday* Kisses (as opposed to every other day kisses) because they were supposed to be sweet and sincere and full of love for the birthday boy. Of course it wasn’t until that February when Changmin cuffed Jaejoong good and hard upside the head for a “Birthday Ear Kiss” that Jaejoong finally relented and conceded defeat.
So then, on each member’s birthday, he was to receive at least one (but best if there were more) sweet, sincere, full of love, extra meaningful kiss on the lips from each of the other members. But this didn’t preclude, Jaejoong was always quick to point out, any other kind of kissing on birthdays.
And that was the Dong Bang Shin Ki Birthday Kiss Tradition.
Last year, Xiah Junsu randomly blurted out on Japanese television that he was born on December 15, 1986, but that for some reason, his birth date was registered as January 1, 1987.
Having all but grown up together, this wasn’t much of a secret to the other Dong Bang boys, but, in the past, the members had opted to give Junsu his Official Birthday Kisses on January 1st because that was his Official Birthday.
This year, however, on the morning of December 15th, Jaejoong woke up in their Japan apartment to find a pouting Junsu squeezed in next to him on his narrow, twin-sized bed.
“Ngnnhgmm?” asked Jaejoong, wriggling one hand free from his blanket cocoon to pat Junsu gently until the pouting went away.
Surprisingly, to Jaejoong anyway, Junsu surged forward and planted a big sloppy kiss on Jaejoong’s lips.
“Happy birthday to me!” he sang, grinning brightly.
And then he rolled off Jaejoong’s bed to repeat the scene with Yunho.
When he got to Changmin, who ended up being the target right after Yunho because Yoochun was stubbornly not waking up and it didn’t count as a Birthday Kiss if the kisser wasn’t awake, remember, Junsu discovered that trying to seize Birthday Kisses on days that were not your Official Birthday was a more dangerous than he’d originally anticipated.
He dodged a vicious kick that would have gifted DBSK with a permanent soprano in residence, but wasn’t quick enough to escape the pillow to the face. Technically, a pillow to the face wasn’t debilitating, but when a half-asleep Changmin was the one delivering the blow, almost any item could take one out for the count. As it was, Junsu had to sit down on the floor next to Changmin’s bed for a minute until his vision straightened out.
By this time Yunho and Jaejoong had caught up with the ambush kisser and they were watching the scene between the two youngest play out… from the safety of the doorway. However, at the sight of the now-recovered Junsu standing a full meter and a half away from Changmin, head cocked to one side with a look of deep contemplation on his face, the two eldest couldn’t help but feel compelled to assist the kid in completing his mission.
Yunho had the most experience waking up Changmin, but Jaejoong clearly had taken the most hits from the magnae…
Yunho was the leader, but Jaejoong was older…
Junsu was the one who started this whole thing…
The three of them stood around Changmin’s long-limbed, deadweight form, and silently formulated their attack strategy using Significant Eye Contact and Vague Hand Gestures.
Once they were all in agreement, Yunho jerked his chin towards the bed and Jaejoong leaped across Changmin’s legs, pinning them to the bed with his own body. Yunho grabbed the left arm, and Junsu grabbed the right before planting himself nose-to-nose with the youngest.
“Wake up, wake up, wake up, now,” said Junsu with a furrowed brow and a slight pout. “I want my Birthday Kiss.”
Changmin turned away from Junsu and tried to bury his face in a fold of blanket.
“Get a Birthday Kiss from someone else first,” he muttered, barely intelligible.
Jaejoong wriggled his way up Changmin’s body until he was lying fully on top of him with his arms folded on Changmin’s chest and his chin resting on his hands.
“He can’t,” he said, matter-of-factly. “He’s already gotten one from both me and Yunho-”
“And you were the one who instituted the new rule last year that each member has to give the birthday boy one Birthday Kiss before anyone is allowed to give out seconds.” Yunho pointed out.
Jaejoong pouted hard.
“I still don’t see why giving Yoochunnie ten good morning Birthday Kisses was wrong.”
“You were sharing a room with him! If Changminnie hadn’t interrupted you and set that rule, you’d have kept him in there all day and the rest of us wouldn’t have been able to give him any Birthday Kisses at all!” Junsu exclaimed.
There was a halfhearted shrug from Jaejoong, but before he could defend himself (or more likely proclaim that he should be the only Birthday Kiss giver anyway because he was just that awesome at it), Changmin managed to dislodge all three of his hyungs and flip over onto his stomach.
“Go bother Yoochuuuuuun…” he mumbled into his mattress.
“He’s refusing to wake up.”
“*I’m* refusing to wake up!” Although truth be told, at this point Changmin could hardly convince anyone that he was not awake.
“I’m your hyung,” Junsu spoke with a firm tone, “and I’m telling you to wake up and kiss me like you’re sincerely thankful that I was born today!”
Changmin cracked one eye open and sought out Yunho’s gaze.
“Can we exchange him for Junho-hyung? I think he’s the better one of the people born today.”
“Awake!” Junsu announced, attacking Changmin for a kiss.
And while their lips did meet, and Changmin was indeed sincerely thankful (in his heart) that Junsu was born today, this first attempt completely failed as a Birthday Kiss because their foreheads slammed together with such force that it completely detracted from the kiss.
Upon hearing the loud crack of skull meeting skull, Jaejoong scrambled up from the floor where Changmin had dumped him to inspect his dongsaengs for damage and see which one he should cuddle first. Despite reportedly having the harder head, Changmin was the one who looked like he was going to cry from the pain so Jaejoong quickly cradled the magnae’s head in his arms and pressed soft, gentle kisses to the injured area.
To forestall the temper tantrum he could see brewing in Junsu’s expression, Yunho rushed to envelop the birthday boy in a big hug. He rubbed his cheek against Junsu’s forehead to soothe the pain away and he scratched lightly at Junsu’s scalp just the way he knew Junsu liked.
Walking in on this awkward tableau, Yoochun immediately turned around, without pause, to walk right back out again.
Unfortunately for Yoochun, Jaejoong was a master at knowing where his members were at all times and detecting aborted entrances into strange and bizarre scenes was actually Jaejoong’s specialty.
“Yoochun-ah!” He shouted, heedless of the fact that his mouth was only about five inches away from Changmin’s ear. “Come in here and Birthday Kiss Junsu before he concusses you like he just did to poor Changminnie!”
“Hurry, Yoochun! Jaejoong-hyung’s giving away all his kisses to Changminnie while you’re dawdling!”
Yunho hid a chuckle against the top of Junsu’s hair, but he held him in place despite Junsu’s flailing for Yoochun. It was infinitely more fun to watch a (recently turned) 22 year old man thrash around on a bed asking for kisses than to actually let him go get them. Of course, Yunho was also worried that Junsu would actually smash his head into Yoochun’s as well in his haste.
It really wouldn’t have been the first time.
The indulgent smile on Yoochun’s face, though, suggested that maybe he was the one who had come up with the concept of the Birthday Kiss in the first place.
Likely just so he could get Junsu all worked up about it.
Regardless of whether or not he got a concussion because of anyone’s (Junsu’s) overzealousness.
Yunho rolled his eyes and let Junsu go.
The birthday boy tripped and tumbled and rolled his way off Changmin and Changmin’s bed to launch himself at Yoochun who welcomed him with outstretched arms.
“Happy birthday, baby,” said Yoochun, his voice still husky from sleep.
Junsu cheerfully closed his eyes and tilted his chin up to await his kiss with a sweet smile on his pretty lips.
Bringing his hands up to cup Junsu’s fresh shaven face, Yoochun leaned in slowly, letting the anticipation build. They touched, just barely, lip to lip, and Yoochun smiled against Junsu’s mouth.
“Good enough for a first-thing-in-the-morning Birthday Kiss?” he asked with a chuckle.
“I’m not sure it lasted long enough for me to feel the sincere, heartfelt, thankfulness for my being born today,” Junsu replied, in all innocent seriousness.
Everyone else laughed, and Junsu cast a puzzled look around the room, unsure as to what they found so funny.
“Oh, hyung,” Changmin wheezed out between chuckles, “let me give you a real Birthday Kiss so you can get a better one from Yoochun.”
He gestured for Junsu to come back to him and Junsu was more than happy to climb over Jaejoong to get to Changmin’s lips.
After Changmin, Jaejoong offered another Birthday Kiss to make up for the ambush one from earlier where it had really been Junsu kissing Jaejoong, and Yoochun, of course, gave him a proper one too. Yunho kissed Changmin on the forehead to make sure that all the ouchies were gone and then the five Dong Bang boys were jockeying for bathroom use as they were now all late for starting their day.
Usually, you see, Birthday Kisses were a foreseeable occurrence and they allotted extra “get ready time” the night before when they set their alarms.
“What’s up with the birthday thing today?” Yunho asked Junsu after giving him his fourth Birthday Kiss on the way to Hey!Hey!Hey! taping.
It took a minute for Junsu to answer because he was occupied with demanding a kiss from Yoochun and Yoochun Birthday Kisses always took a ridiculous amount of time.
“Because Jaejoong-hyung’s birthday is in January too, and both yours and Changminnie’s are in February… I thought it best if we spread out the distribution of Birthday Kisses before our lips get all chapped out.”
The other four members blinked.
It was some kind of fantastic logic.
It also explained why on Yoochun’s birthday, Birthday Kisses tended to last twice as long and he was gifted with about a million more of them than anyone else. And why on the magnae’s birthday, Birthday Kisses felt a bit perfunctory.
“That’s… almost brilliant,” Changmin said slowly, as if he couldn’t believe the words coming out of his own mouth.
“I know, right?” Junsu beamed. “Birthday Kiss from Changminnnie now!”
And so December 15th went.
Maybe it was because the members weren’t prepared for it to be a day of Birthday Kissing, but Junsu thought that the Kisses he received that day were extra sweet and extra loving. Getting into bed as December 15th turned to December 16th, Junsu prodded a half asleep Yunho for one last Birthday Kiss before his day was officially over. And then one from Changmin who was curled up behind Yunho. And then one from Yoochun who was getting into bed behind him.
“Lights out,” announced Jaejoong. “I get to give the last Birthday Kiss! Yoochun, get your lips off that kid right now!”
And the five Dong Bang boys snuggled together on the floor of their living room in a messy tangle of long limbs, extra warm blankets, and fluffy pillows.
Junsu had almost forgotten about the follow up Birthday Sleepover Tradition. It certainly was lucky that Jaejoong was good with this kind of thing.

As soon as they entered the apartment after the Kouhaku year end concert, before they’d even had a chance to close the door much less take off their shoes, Junsu turned to Yunho with his chin jutting out and demanded: “Birthday Kiss now!”
Changmin whipped his scarf off in the blink of an eye, wrapped it tightly around the lower half of Junsu’s face, and used the ends to pull Junsu’s head out of reach of Yunho’s lips.
“Ah ha, you cheater! I knew you were up to something when you claimed your Birthday Kisses in December. No weaseling in an extra day!” he declared.
“But we always celebrate his birthday on January first,” said Yoochun who was happily holding hands with Junsu like his groupmate wasn’t about to be suffocated in wooly goodness by another groupmate. “And I don’t know if I can ring in the New Year without a Birthday Kiss for Junsu.”
Junsu tried giving his “most innocent, pure, and imploring eyes” expression to their magnae.
“It’s not fair for Junsu to get an extra day of Birthday Kisses.”
“It’s not my fault that I have two birthdays!” His protest was muffled, but still audible.
This was a valid point, but it went against the spirit of the Tradition for Junsu to get two days worth of Birthday Kisses. After a moment of thought, during which Jaejoong tried to discreetly disengage Changmin from the scarf and thereby free Junsu… with no success… Changmin’s face lit up and he held up a finger in the universal sign of “oh! I have an idea!”
“Okay. From now on, Junsu gets Birthday Kisses on December 15th and we institute a new tradition for January first. The Official New Year’s Kiss.”
Because Yoochun was right and it wouldn’t really feel like New Year’s at all without a sweet, sincere, heartfelt kiss on the lips with one devious little Kim “Xiah” Junsu.
“So, at least one meaningful kiss, on the lips, from each member to every other member,” said Yunho.
“Both the kisser and the kissee have to be awake for it,” Yoochun continued.
“And no seconds until every one has had firsts,” concluded Changmin.
“Plus mandatory tongue!” Jaejoong shouted merrily, throwing his arms wide.
Then he promptly gave Junsu whiplash as he wrenched him out of Changmin’s grasp into the Kim Jaejoong Kiss Radius.
Later, Yunho would announce the invention of the January Second Wake Up Kiss, which was met with genuine, though slightly hung-over, enthusiasm, and after two bottles of champagne and assorted soju bombs, not even Jaejoong insisted on tongue for that one.
“Maybe for the January Third Tea Time Kiss,” Jaejoong mumbled to himself as he stumbled off to the kitchen to put the coffee on, “Tongue would definitely have to be mandatory for that one.”
