Hello everyone! This fic was posted to the community violetklaus awhile back, the fandom is A Series of Unfortunate Events, obviously ... it's SLIGHTLY V/K, nothing extreme. Rating is G, so not to worry. Enjoy =D.
Title: I'm Sorry
Author: Me, whatitistoburn1
Rating: G
Summary: Klaus has terribly hurt Violet and they're both devastated.
Warnings: First attempt at ASoUE fanfiction ... been turning this idea over in my head for awhile and I know it could be more developed and whatever ... I just thought I'd leave it somewhat raw. Go easy, please =]. Also, it's somewhat of a song fic, I heard this song at work and it brought back many memories and inspired this. Lyrical credits at the end given to Lifehouse, I'm not 100% positive of the name of the song, all I know is I don't own it and I'm not claiming to =D.
“I’m sorry Violet,” Klaus whispered to the hard oak of her closed door.
In all of his twelve years, Klaus had never intentionally hurt his sister. He got her annoyed, or angry occasionally, as it is a younger brother’s right to. But what he had done to her this time was more than the time he took her favorite doll without asking and accidentally pulled her head off. It was so much more than the time he was chasing her around their yard and collided into her so hard that she fell and skinned both of her knees. He had done something so unforgivable; he felt it like a hole in his soul. She would never forgive him.
Violet lay silently in her bed, dark surrounding her, tears streaming down her face. She didn’t even lift a finger to brush the salty trails away. She clutched her old doll now. After Klaus had torn the head off and Violet cried for days, their mother had stitched it back on. Though disheveled and very worn, her doll still brought her comfort, though she hardly needed it. Usually all she had to do was go down the hall to her little brother’s room and he’d make everything okay; take her in his arms and hug her to him, letting his strength seep through him to her and the whole world would be right again as his soft voice lulled her back to tranquility. But now all she could cling to was this doll. Her little brother had let her slip through his fingers.
So he sat, leaning against her door, eyes closed, feeling the hot tears burning his eyelids. He hadn’t meant it. He would never intentionally hurt her. She was his world. His everything. She was all he ever had. He loved her so deeply his whole being ached for her. Every cell in his body was saturated with love for her; every fiber he possessed seemed to only exist to make her happy.
And now, his entire body had failed him.
She could do nothing but lie there, trembling, and feel the searing pain of betrayal infect her skin, seep through to her organs, and settle somewhere between her heart and her lungs. She couldn’t move. Klaus had taken the life right out of her. She had never felt so alone. Even the time she and her family went to Disney World and all she wanted was a hug from Mickey and she stayed behind while her parents and Klaus headed for the Dumbo ride. She had turned around and realized that her parents and brother were nowhere in sight. She remembered the panicked feeling rise in her seven year old throat, trying hard not to cry, trying to keep calm. And then, out of nowhere, little five year old Klaus toddled over to her, took her hand and lead her back to their parents. He’d saved her. There was no one to save her now.
So he sat, his back to the door. The silence was deafening. He waited. For movement. For anything. Anything to let him know he hadn’t destroyed her. The past hour had been torture; she had screamed at him mercilessly, and he deserved it. They fought through her closed door; she couldn’t even stand to look at his face. When she finally fell silent he had slumped down the door, every sense seized in disbelief. He had lost his best friend. He had lost everything.
Then suddenly, he could hear a faint sound coming from inside the closed door. He jolted upright and pressed his ear to the door desperately, trying to identify the sounds. With what could have been brotherly instinct or very thin walls, he could distinctly hear Violet’s soft breathing, the kind that told him she was asleep, escaping the pain. He sagged back to the floor, taking his head in his hands.
“I will always love you Violet”.
‘Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don’t wanna speak tonight that’s alright, alright with me.
Cause I want nothing more than to sit outside heaven’s door
And listen to you breathing - is where I wanna be.
