Oh dear, Miss Carey

Miss Carey,

I've met you. You seem like an intelligent and creative person, with a lot of new thoughts and ideas.

But why, oh why, did you go so OOC when it comes to Imriel no Montreve de la Courcel?

The boy, by all rights, is nothing like he should be.

1. He's of Kushiel's line and of Elua's line. But he is so devoted and honorable that he seems to be neither.

2. His mother was a cruel woman, who did cruel things. His father was a sad man that did dishonorable things. By all rights, Imriel should not have the completely solid gold heart you've given him.

3. No matter how much healing he seeks at Balm House in Kushiel's Scion it can't heal the scars of being abandoned, kidnapped, used as a sex slave, and then raised by two people who've never raised a child before and have no clue as to how to do it.

4. At not one point in time, after Imriel weds Dorelei, do I feel ONE BIT sorry for him and Sidonie. They violated their religion's precepts, they made their choices. All of Imriel's whining only made him more annoying to me, as did his cavalier attitude to leaving his kingdom behind to go back to Terre d'Ange.

5. How many damned times do you need to have Imriel describe Phedre as having the 'name of God in her thoughts'? WE KNOW!!!

6. Imriel's a whiner. Phedre and Joscelin didn't raise a whiner. You made me almost hate him.

Just, next time, keep your character's background in mind and stop trying to write him as a tragic hero? He's not.
