This book was one of the first ones mentioned on this community, and I intended from the start to add my two cents, but I forgot, since I'm lazy.

But here it is.

Days of Magic, Nights of War. Sequel to the extremely creative, and of course, beautifully illustrated Abarat. Eagerly anticipated. Disappointment from the very first page.

On an entirely unrelated note (for I am a bad, bad mod), you need to get on AIM sometime.

Well, I have been six time zones away for the past few months. Also I'm currently at my aunt's house and my internet connection here does not come complete with instant messaging.

I'll be back on as soon as I can. I've missed you.

Odd, I was not bothered by this at all, the brief mentioning that there are some untold stories between books... maybe it's because The Neverending Story remains one of my favourite books ever, and that one had countless instances where a related story is briefly sketched out or mentioned, but not actually told.
As for Abatar, it has been a while since I read the book, but I think my reaction was to be pleased that the characters are busy, have been busy, and that I get thrown into the action. I like that.

I liked Neverending Story (when I was a kid, I wanted to change my name to Atreyu, true fact) but the difference there was that the stories outlined were tangential to the lives of the main characters, rather than being part of them.

That's certainly true, but as far as I recall, none of the events mentioned to have happened between the two books were of huge importance, at the very least compared to the things that took place in the book itself. If I am utterly wrong there, do correct me.
To me, it mostly set the mood. Could as well not have been mentioned, I guess.
