This may sound stupid...but...Does anyone know what is STEAMPUNK?

I am admiring some cool jewelry designs and I noticed (since I make jewelry) that a lot of people are calling such designs SteamPunk. Anyone know what it is, how it started...etc...I am curious to know more about it.

I found this on youtube but I want to know more:

I have mad love for steampunk stylings.

Generally speaking, steampunk is Jules Verne + innovation based on a Victorian idea of future capabilities.

For a better explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk

This extends beyond dress and art-- Abney Park is a steampunk band I quite enjoy. :D

My pleasure! I got into steampunk awhile ago-- I don't dress, per se, but slowly I've been adding steamy pieces to my wardrobe, like little glove-things and stuff like that.

If you start making steamy jewelry, you have GOT to post pics on here!

Chat said everything I was going to, but I definitely second the request for pictures if you make jewelry! I especially like the necklaces made out of gears. It can be nifty if done right.

For an excellent mental image of Steam Punk... think of the movie Wild Wild West... the cheesy one with Will Smith. I think it may have even been touched upon in Back to the Future 3 with the whole time traveling train. It's exactly what Chat said it was... she's so awesome at explaining things... but the movies are just for visual comparison to explanation. Hope we helped!

You did help indeed...Thanks. I loved the TV Series, Wild, Wild West. But I still did enjoy the cheesy movie version ::HIDES::. Oh and I did put Tin Man on my NETFLIX list (I cound not find it on HULU or even the Sci Fi Channel).

Have you looked at any of the SS/HG exchange stories?
