On my old violin, I like Dominants for symphony stuff, and Helicores for fiddle stuff...On my new one, I haven't really wanted to switch from the Dominants, but then money's tight, so I'm not really up to switching out strings right now. We'll see, though, when i get my grandfather's violin back from the shop.
Have you ever used Infeld Reds or Blues? I have heard interesting things about them, and while they are nice and cheap, I haven't really thought about using them yet.
perhaps the best website for strings is http://www.shar.com/ or Shar Music, if you google it. That's where I get all my strings. They are reasonable, and have specials almost all the time.
I learned that matching the right kind of strings with a fiddle can imporve tone and sound 20 times over! So have fun trying them out!
I've used Dominants once or twice, but I tend to keep to the Super Sensitive Red Label strings, a throwback to my symphony orchestra days (and also simply out of habit). They give both my fiddle and viola a really nice sound that makes faster pieces sound rather odd but makes slower pieces sound quite lovely. A full set tends to be expensive, though.

Thanks for the link, by the by! The prices are certainly much better than the music store I normally go to...I think I may have to utilise this site!
