I love my fiddle student. She came in today with tons of loose energy, which we tamed into lots of efficientcy, and she learned almost all of Sculleys's Reel, a fun minor reel. She is great. I'm terribly proud. My question..... does anyone know any fun, nice, but pretty easy reels, jigs, waltzes that can be found in either the fiddlers fake book, ( Read more... )

Cliffs of Moher isn't too bad, and Swallowtail Jig is pretty easy, too, but has some cross over stuff - I don't know if they're in either the fiddler's fake book or the portland collection, but they are pretty standard tunes.

Fanny Powers is a nice little waltz.

Dont know Cliffs of Moher..... but sounds good. Will check in all my books (I have a large collection of well known, and rather obscure tune books). Swallowtail jig is a good one. I love it, and I love the harmony part too! I plan to teach her that one in a month or two. And Fanny Powers is terrific. I tried learning it myself awhile back, but then slacked off. But a friend of mine knows it, so I'm gonna work it out so we can play that one together.

Fanny Powers is one of the easiest tunes I know, and people like it out at fest.

There's a harmony part to Swallowtail!? Care to share? I'll try to find the music for Cliffs of Moher, and once the swelling in my jaw from my wisdom teeth being pulled goes down, I'll try and record it to MP3 for you.

Great book. I love it. About 40 tunes in large easy to read print. Lots of traditional tunes. With some new ones. With harmony part to a few like Jamie Allen, Swallowtails, Shepards Wife Waltz, and Star of the County Down. Great book. Highly advise it.

Terribly sorry about your teeth being pulled. No fun at all. Havent gotten high tech enough to do the MP3 thing, otherwise I'd record Swallowtails harmony, but I'm not quite that good. Terribly sorry. (But if it helps in buying the book, profits go to a scholarship program for disavantaged kids who want to go to a fabulous camp in rural Vermont.)
