Calling all fiddle links :)

I'm working on adding links to our community site. I've had TheSession.org there fora while, and just added the Digital Library of Appalachia and Liz Carroll's site.

Anyone else have favorites? :)

www.practicestudio.ca has sheet music and MIDI sound files at slow, medium, and fast speeds. You can select the fiddle-only MIDI, piano-only, or fiddle and piano MIDI for each speed. The fiddle doesn't sound much like a fiddle, but the up-side is it's very easy to tell which sounds come from the recording when you play along.

www.violinmasterclass.com has Quicktime movies with definitions, explanations, and exercises for beginners and advanced players. It's coming from the classical world, but it's a good technical supplement.

I personally am a big fan of the tune finder at http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/music/abc/FindTune.html. It's a searchable database of tunes and returns its search results in .gif, .pdf, midi, abc, and several other file types all at once. While I've occasionally stumped it with some of the older, more obscure Cape Breton tunes out there, it's pretty good for common tunes, and usually has more than one version of each tune, especially the more common ones.

www.fiddle.com has a lot of resources, from what I recall from the last time I was on there.

I know this isnt really a contra dance community- BUT! www.dancegypsy.com has some really great links to dance halls ALLLLL over New England and surrounding areas. From there you can acess favorite musicians homepages, CD information and what nots. Just for fiddlers and all people in the folk music world, even non-dancers, its a great resource!
