Does anybody know of a website or other resource that has information about fiddle tunes? i.e. where the tunes came from, the stories behind them, when they were written or why, what they might be about, etc ( Read more... )

Well, if you can get your hands on it (it may be a bit hard to find), the Simon Fraser Collection (The Airs and Melodies peculiar to the Highlands of Scotland and the Isles) has an appendix that gives information on most of the tunes in the collection.

http://thesession.org/ is a great website with lots of tunes. You can find out who has recorded the music, and sometimes under comments it has stories about where the tunes came from, who wrote them, and nice stories associated with the tunes. Also, The Portland Collection is a great book, and they have a nice bit in the back where they write ALL about all the tunes. For waltzes, all three of the waltz books are really nice, and have tune notes aswell. Good luck!
