sorry, I hit return too soon on that last one. Just found your LJ and would like to be added. (This is Eve from a few rows over...watching the stupid RIB objects deadlock...)
Hey I saw your comment and username on murumatsu's journal and thought I would tell you about the Norwegian hardanger fiddle. My username hardingfele, is the Norwegian word for it. We got a workshop coming up near Madison, WI in July, check out www.hfaa.org if you are interested. I thought perhaps if you are a violin/fiddle player like me, you may be intrigued by this unique instrument. Otherwise, the Twin Cities has a hardanger fiddle group that meets monthly. The website has soundclips and such. Drop a comment on my blog if you want to know more about the hardanger fiddle.

PS I know murumatsu and her husband thru Carleton College, so I am not a total stranger.
:) I am aware of the hardanger fiddle - and love listening to it when they play clips of it on MPR on The Morning Show. But thank you! I love meeting other musicians and learning about instruments and the cultures from which they come.
Fiddle-wise, I play Irish fiddle - though I also play some classical violin with the Dakota Valley Symphony.
Great, it's a funky instrument, so I am always promoting it. I used to play classical violin but the orchestra meets at a time that is not convenient, so unles I practice at home (which is not often) my musical outlets are a folk band (we do bluegrass, Irish, Cajun, etc) and the hardanger.
PS the hardanger fiddle has a dragon's head on the scroll, so that I thought perhaps you played this instrument. This is the type of head that was used on Viking ships. We got a tornado heading our way, so I guess I am signing off.
