I am not a big proponent of Wal-Mart in general - not to say that I have an objection to super-stores overall, but I find Wal-Mart's practices to be particularly distasteful. What benefits it could bring don't actually seem needed here in Bartleby, and as such I'm happy to throw my lot in with those who are also displeased with this development ( Read more... )

I am loading up my plate with things to do for the Hell No campaign, so I'd be doing both of us a disservice by volunteering on this front, but I did want to say thank you for this offer. Someone should be doing this. I'm Victor.

If you want camera work, Will Arden is your man. Though he's more of the artsy variety than journalistic. If that doesn't work out, I've handled a camera before on occasion.

P.S.: I know I've seen you in the journalism building before. Maggie, right?

Yeah, that's me. I've only been around recently to reacquaint myself with the professors and get my course schedule on track, I don't actually start up again until winter. I'll be auditioning for one of the spots on FriarTV though, as well as for my other extracurriculars.

Sweet. You've got the photogenic part down, s'for sure. If you end up needing an amateur cameraman after break, lemme know.

Hullo! Been following links from other blogs to you. My name's Ailey Huxley, and I'd be more than happy to pitch in. I'm not a broadcast journalist but I'm a fair hand at writing and such, and I may be able to shake some attention our way. Feel free to drop me an email or a text for contact info - I'll be away most of the hols but I'll be reachable.

This ad-hoc organization could use a name. Much as I love 'Oh HELL NO!', not sure how well it'll play in the media. Any ideas, as a journalist? Short and easy to remember is good. :)

Well, the first thing that comes to mind for me is the phrase Mom And Pop Shop because they are what's slowly being destroyed by places like Wal-Mart. How useful that is, I don't actually know, but for me the phrase evokes themes of traditional Americana - baseball, apple pie, that sort of thing.

That's really good - even has a good acronym (MAPS). It's a good evocative phrase, I agree, and it's great for Bartleby in particular, because the town is so quirky and wonderful and yet quintessentially American.

See my post, but also: if our schedules don't match (possible, since I am pretty much everybody else's bitch from the word go), I would happily train somebody in the finer points of using one of the campus cameras.
