Duty...done!

Today was the long postponed Jury Duty. I was called to go in, no surprise since I'd asked them to set it up for today. I sat and read books and tried Sudoku in the Jury Assembly Room most of the day, then just when I thought I'd leave without having to serve on a jury, I got called to go to a courtroom ( Read more... )

Yay!
By the way, what is Sudoku?
And which two children's books did you read?

I got called to serve jury duty once. I smiled and checked the box that said, "not a citizen." They actually mailed me back stating that the excuse has been granted, but it does not free me from future jury duties. I laughed. I would be happy to serve as on jury if that gives me a citizenship!

...is what the LA Times gives as the site for info. It's a logic puzzle using numbers, essentially. I originally thought it might be useful for the classroom, but having tried a "gentle" puzzle, I think not. If they had basic beginner super bonehead, maybe.

I read "The Secret of Platform 13" and "The Indian in the Cupboard," both oldies, but I hadn't read them before. I really liked the Platform 13 and want to read more of the author's books. I have The Indian in the Cupboard and sequels on audiotape for the classroom, and I wanted to know what it was like before I turned kids loose with the book/tape.

Found out this morning that my law student tenant's judge is on jury duty in LA this week, but he wasn't there yesterday. He's calling in each day, so may be in sometime this week. They don't let anyone out, these days. Except zzyzxx who has an excellent excuse. However, the country would be way better off if they gave him the citizenship and he got to do the duty!
