Garlic soup

Jul 13, 2004 10:34

I recently found this recipe in old files as I was trying to make sense of OSX's menus (the computer variety). It is a fantastic soup, perhaps more suited to winter than summer, but excellent all the same. Mind you, normally I don't cook. I did discover that increasing the recipe leads to more mess during step 3. It's still worth it ( Read more... )

Is that the same Garlic Soup you made the night your dad came round and I passed out in the upstairs bathroom? I think I still have the dent in my skull from that..........

Yes, but didn't you have the flu that night? I don't think the soup and the passing out are connected. Did you ever have any of the soup?

I had something, it knocked me out for the best part of a week, but that New Year's Eve I was terrible.

No, I never got to try the soup.

Such a shame. It was fantastic.

So, what about the OS X's menu were you trying to make sense of?
(I tried running OS X on my year 2000 Powerbook. It's okay, but the graphics are very, very slow... I could use a new Mac...)

Well, I seem to have duplicated some of the folders I used to have in OS9 and I 'm still trying to figure out where some of my files went. I found Finale files, but not where I expected them, and it was while on a quest for Finale files (F) that I found the garlic soup (G). This should not be in any way interpreted to say that midnite wolf did a bad job on the installation; just that I'm a bit slow on the tech uptake. I'm supposed to be getting a new iPod today and I hope I can learn how to use it.

Yes, the file whereabouts on the OS X is quite different from OS 9. A lot of things are in the "user" files as opposed to just inside the Hard Drive icon, and there are also access privilages that allows only specified users to view certain files. I am still learning it myself - I used OS X a bit at UW, they have a 1GHz PowerMac G4 which is very nice.

I think you can still use Sherlock to look for files by name, though.

Hi, this comment has nothing to do with recipes or Mac OS X. I just have a question and I don't have your e-mail address out so I figured why not use LJ.

Do you have a DVD player?

Please let me know soon! :)

Yes, we do have a DVD player. It's multi region, but does not work very well. Midnitewolf says it's the TV not the player, and I am inclined to believe him. He does, after all, know a WHOLE lot more about these things than I do! You can view DVDs but the picture goes light and dark. I gather we can also look at DVDs on the computer/s, though I haven't tried. I don't actually won any DVDs though there are several in the house, as you might imagine! Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I've been in a fantastic fiddle school on an island in Boston Harbor. Gloriously beautiful.

Your reply is actually pretty prompt.

So I take it you prefer watching things on VHS rather than DVD.
(Why do I ask? You'll find out some time in the future. Stay tuned!)

I think I like DVDs better, in theory. Eventually the practice will catch up with the theory. I expect that I'll buy another television better suited to DVDs. In practical terms, DVDs are taking over from the VHS types, and I'll want to have DVDs more.
