I believe I've mentioned some kind of sparring time for swordsmen here and there before, but given several people mentioning something about wanting to learn, I figure it's about time we looked into starting it up ( Read more... )

So would we have some sort of safety measures (blunt weapons, even matches, so forth)? Because I'd imagine a lot of us are good enough to harm each other otherwise.

Wherever possible, yes. I don't know how many of us have practice versions of our weapons, or can modify theirs to make it safe, but those who can should do so, and we'll try to pair off people of similar skill levels and weapon type.

If anyone would need some kind of wooden practice version of their weapon of choice, I can look into getting lumber at the least while I am out.

...Oh, what the heck. You can never have too much to do.

If you get the wood, I can help you shape it. I've had a little bit of practice at that kind of thing.

Can do, though no one seems to have requested a wooden weapon, yet. I can sympathize - I've been using mine for a very long time and picking up something else would feel...jarring.

I might not be able to aid much, but maybe my own magic might help a little if its possible.

Hmm. Perhaps it's because I'm not talented in that way, but I didn't think of seeing if people would want to train their magical skills as well. I think it'll be a welcome addition.

For empty space, I recommend the hanger bay. There's plenty of extra room, and nothing really breakable besides the planes which we can make sure are kept out of the way.

I think I'd be curious in coming to watch for a while, if nothing else. I'm probably a little out of practice, so some training might not hurt.

That's an excellent idea - I can't imagine there being a much larger space on board.

Feel free to come watch - or participate - as you like. Everyone is welcome - we're just trying to keep people sharp in a time that is starting to look like it will require it.

Ah, you're the man who talked about doing nothing! It's good to hear from you again, especially on a subject I happen to have a keen interest in. Ah, except for I kind of fear some of us might be in this for a little more than practice - and I mean a "little more" as in "maiming their opponent." I'd be in either way, really.

I believe Hijikata has a pretty large extra room he might be willing to give up in order for some sparring practice. I'm sure he'd love to contribute to your cause in whatever way possible.

I'll...try to keep an eye on everyone, but I hope that, regardless of what issues exist, people can have a nice, civil sparring session with each other. Not putting people who don't like each other against each other would also help.

If we have fewer attendees than I suspect we will, a more conventional room would be better than the hangar, but we may need the extra space - especially if people will be fiddling around with magic or longer-range weapons.

Ah, we should probably stick with the mess hall. I'm sure we could all move the tables closer to the walls to make more room.

However if that doesn't work, there is always the cellar.

It is looking like we'll have 8-10 people; the mess could probably suffice. I'm thinking this will wind up being decided shortly before we begin, though.
