Putting them in the freezer will actually make them last longer, since it will make the magnetic domains on the swipey-stripe stay aligned longer.

But either way we're talking about a very, very long time for entropy to do its thing and make the domains get all jumbled.

A better way to disable credit cards is a pair of scissors or Pax-teeth.
