I like this--the juxtaposition of the two scenes is nicely done, and I think the balance between them is well-set. The moment between Mulder, Scully, and Willia, on the bed is also very sweet. Congrats on your first XF fic! \0/

I have a few more semi-critical thoughts--you can feel free to stop reading here if you want to!

1) I can't tell if the choppiness of your sentences is intentional, meant to keep a kind of staccato beat behind the work, or if it's an accident. If it's intentional, then I think there needs to be something to signal that--it needs to be more clearly rhythmic, probably more repetition at the ends of sentences rather than just at the beginning. Or if it's unintentional, breaking up the rhythm would be nice, and would make it flow better.

2) Similarly, there's a lot of wonky punctuation--inconsistent use of commas and periods, for instance--that's just a touch jarring. Cleaning some of that stuff up would help it read much more smoothly.

Like I said, welcome to the club! *g*

I give you all of the appreciation I have for the critique. Exactly what I was looking for! I wish I'd had a beta to tell me that before I posted. *dismayed*
I think I'll try an clean it up like you suggest. I have a huge problem when it comes to proper punctuation. The choppy feeling *is* partly on purpose, but it was not intended to be enough to distract from the story. I was attempting rhythm, but not entirely sure how to achieve it. Actually, I was concerned that it might be to incoherent.
Thanks for the welcome. *beams* I've been a tad insecure about writing in such a well established and long standing fandom.

Glad to be useful! If you're newish to the fandom, some resources (which are only really relevant to MSR stuff, as I don't know the other bits of the fandom as well)--

Idealist's Haven is the major message board still functioning (also there's a TWoP board where folks hang out), and it's got a lot of really enthusiastic people on it. I don't always agree with their fic tastes, but they're encouraging and always willing to help a newbie offer. A lot of folks over there are willing to beta, as well, so if you're looking for a regular XF beta you could check out over there.

Ephemeral is where most new fic gets posted that's not LJ. I'll admit I'm an LJ-only poster, largely because of laziness, but I'm only able to do that because I've built up a following-ish (*tries not to brag*) and therefore can trust that people who aren't on LJ have bookmarked my fic tag or will hear on the Haven/from friends that I've written something new. There are a lot of people who aren't on LJ, though, who are enthusiastic readers and would love to see ( ... )

By all means brag away. I didn't realize it at first but your fics were reced to me, I want to sit down and read them, but I'm trying really hard to focus on myself. It's waaaaaaaaaay to easy for me to lose it reading and end up fangirling over fics for 48 hours straight. Ever sit up, look at the mountain of Dr.Pepper cans around you, and realize that you haven't slept for the past 50 odd hours? That's me ( ... )

I really enjoyed this, and I like the juxtaposition of the three of them at home (really sweet but not cloying) and Mulder at the hands of the aliens (what DID they want, anyway ( ... )

Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked it!

I have actually joined Haven. Everyone is very kind, and I've found myself addicted to The Coffee Clutch folder. I'm Fidella over there as well.
I'm constantly trying to work on getting better with the technicalities of writing. I've never really payed much attention to them, and I'm quickly learning that I'd better start!

I hope you'll read my coming fics. As soon as I'm done with them that is!
Thank you again for reading AND commenting. It means a lot. =D

Oh, well, DUH! I had seen your name at the Haven as a new member.

But like I said earlier, I kind of missed some details with the small resolution on this page, including your name--I guess I kind of glossed over it. OOPS!

Anyway, I'm glad you like the Haven. It really is a wide-ranging, mostly fun and usually really friendly place. ;0)

I'd be happy to read any of your future endeavors. ;0)

Right not I'm stressing over trying to finish my Big Bang fic on time... YIKES!!

You glossed over my name! eek!
I like my print tiny. But I didn't think it was that small! I 'll need to change it...I need to find a brighter layout anyways.

Your writing for the Big Bang! Fantastic! Oh crap I forgot to sign up for the art part! D= I'm a genius.
Keep going! you can do it! My hats off to you lovely people who write novel length stories with a deadline. (deadlines make me break out in hives)
Do you mind if I friend you?

It's not so much that the font's that small, but that combined with my old eyes (and the fact that I'm waaaay overdue for an update to my glasses perscription) makes it a little hard for me.

Writing for a deadline is killing me. I don't ordinarily subject myself to stuff like this, because I'm a lazy and undisciplined writer (when it comes to keeping at it) and I tend to write only when I feel like it.
But I thought it wouldn't be that hard because I already had a story started that hadn't been posted or seen by anyone yet, apart from maybe one other person.
I was already over the minimum word count at that time and I've got even more words now. Whether or not those words truly constitute a good story remains to be seen. And I'm not finished yet! *banging head on desk*

I would not mind at all if you friended me. ;0)

I wanted to change my layout anyways. This ones getting on my nerves. xD Theres something off in the code.

ah yes, the banging head on desk method to stress relief. I practice it myself. I've found that using a wall can make a great variation. I'm sure all those pretty words strung together will make an excellent story. I'm working on something myself, but at the rate I'm going, next years big bang will probably be up and running before I get it done. Maybe I'll enter it then. Ha.

btw Thanks for reminding me to sign up for the artist section. If you hadn't commented I would have forgotten!
Friended! ;D
