Affiliation: Breeder
Personality:
When Tavros is first introduced, we only see him through his attempts to troll main character Dave through instant messages. And he doesn't do very well, quickly getting overwhelmed by Dave's rapid-fire innuendos. Once we get to know him, it's clear that he really isn't cut out for that sort of thing. He's actually an easygoing young lad who likes to spend his days playing "card" games with his guardian and rapping (badly) with friends. He also used to enjoy playing live-action role playing games of a more extreme form, until one unfortunate encounter left him wheelchair-bound.
Tavros is not exactly known for his self-confidence. He is said to speak in "a sort of, uhh, faltering manner". Even when he's complaining about some antagonistic act an associate is pulling on him (say, building lots of stairs for him to "climb" up), he's very tentative and careful about his words, picking and choosing in an attempt not to offend. He has aspirations toward greater things, however, hoping to hone his jousting skill and join his planet's Cavalreapers one day. As meek and pacifistic as he is, Tavros can fight, if it's necessary. He'd just much prefer to find peaceful solutions, so he'll do his best to exhaust all other options first.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ Many trolls have some form of special psychic power, and Tavros's is the ability to commune with animals. He uses it to befriend and command the bizarre creatures in
Fiduspawn, a troll game similar to Pokémon that he plays. This ability to commune even extends to hostile creatures, such as the imps and ogres in Sgrub.
+ Tavros is a friendly and sensitive boy, which seems to be pretty unusual for his species. Karkat comments at one point that he doesn't think Tavros is really capable of truly hating anyone. This can be a plus and a minus, of course.
+ Despite everything that's happened to him, seemingly one painful event after another, Tavros is still able to retain a generally happy demeanor, for the most part.
+ He's not especially intelligent, but he isn't stupid either, and he is fairly sensible. He mostly has a good idea of his own strengths and limitations (except, oddly, about his terrible rapping).
+ When it comes down to it, Tavros is a bit stronger emotionally than he may seem. Despite Vriska's pushing and prodding, he won't debase himself for her amusement, nor will he abuse his powers to boss wildlife around unkindly.
- Tavros is permanently paralyzed from the waist down. (In canon he eventually gets replacement robot legs, but I'm taking him from shortly before that happens.) The difficulties inherent in this are pretty obvious. He can ride on his Pokémon or get a wheelchair, but either way he'll have a much harder time getting places than most people.
- He has some severe self-esteem issues. He's conscious of this problem, and he's trying to improve, but it's still pretty easy to push him around. His willpower is a little weak, too -- Vriska, who has mind-controlling abilities, finds it pretty easy to control Tavros.
- Tavros is extremely awkward socially, even with his friends. He pauses a lot when he speaks, trying to phrase what he has to say in the most innocuous and inoffensive way he can. He sometimes has a hard time reading other people, too.
- His rapping really is pretty terrible.

First Person Sample:
[A video feed activates to show a lad -- about 13, from the looks of it -- with a mohawk-esque hairdo, sitting in the grass and leaning back against the side of a building. A Tauros is nuzzling his side affectionately, and he's petting it in return.]
So, uhh... There are a lot of questions... that I could be asking, right now. Questions like, how did I get here, and what happened to my friends, and, and also, where did my horns go... But I think, the most important one right now is, uhh...
Where can I get... a new four wheel device? It's going to be, umm, hard getting anywhere, if I have to ride on Tinkerbull Jr.'s back everywhere I go. He doesn't, uhh, seem to mind, but I'd feel bad, making him do that.
Yeah, so, uhh... Thanks.
Third Person Sample:
It wasn't until Tavros ran into another trainer that he discovered the fatal flaw in his plan.
Everything had been smooth sailing up to then. He'd clambered up onto Tinkerbull Jr.'s back (a difficult process in its own right, one that took several attempts), and the two of them had started down the path to the next city, where, he'd heard, he could find a new four wheel device. They'd met lots of wild Pokemon on their way, but Tavros had happily discovered that he could commune with them too, and each time he made a new friend and went on his way without anyone having to get hurt.
And then he ran into a trainer, some weird kid with a giant purple rat-creature. "Uhh, no, I," Tavros stammered, "that's okay, we don't have to... Uhh, I don't want you to go out of your way, to fight us, and we just want to, uhh, get to the next city anyway, so... I hope, umm, that this isn't ruining your fun, but if we could just, uhh, start going down the path again..." But the kid didn't listen, commanding his "Rattata" to attack, and Tavros found, much to his dismay, that he couldn't even abscond...
The Rattata dashed forward and slammed into Tinkerbull Jr., and Tavros desperately clutched his mane to stay in place. "Uhh, okay, uhh... Tinkerbull, use, umm, Tackle?" The Tauros obeyed -- throwing Tavros right off his back in the process. He tumbled into the grass with a thump and a pained groan. But Tavros pushed himself up and tried to focus on the fight through his headache, still shouting out nervous commands. It didn't matter if he didn't like fighting, or if his head was throbbing -- Tinkerbull Jr. was his friend, and he had to try to protect him.
And anyway, that wasn't the worst fall he'd ever had.
