Surprises

And there I thought my trainout session would be boring but no got a very pleasant surprise...

---------------

Kris had grown frustrated of her room, of not doing something and so had dressed in her usual training gear. And was now stood in the centre of the mats, she had been there for a good couple of hours. Sweat poured off her skin, ever since she had that dream, she felt a new kind of determination and was now toning her body to ready herself.

Giles *having gone in search of Kris, he smiles when he sees her in the gym. He approaches her in line-of-sight, he know better than to startle a Slayer* Kris, may I talk with you for a moment? I spar with you if you want to continue.

Kris stopped slowly, her fists falling to her sides before she smirked lightly for a moment," Nah, I think it's about time for a break. Can't go too long without stopping, or then there's the whole dehydration and exhausation issue." With that, she smiled and snatched up her water bottle, taking a long drink.

I'm sorry about Father Gabriel leaving and was wondering, since you're without a Watcher... well, if you'd consider me for your Watcher. *he had been upset at Gabe's leaving. They hadn't had a decent discussion since the nightmares and his marriage to Buffy. He wondered if the priest was hurt somehow by the marriage. Giles was determined to pull things back together with Slayers, witches and Watchers.*

Kris blinked before she smiled," You sure you want to take me on? The currently being talked to by demons in her head girl?" She was of course joking.

Giles smiled. "You sure you want a Watcher that was seeing dead people for awhile?"

At this point, she chuckled softly," Guess we make a good team then huh? But of course Giles, you're like the ultimate Watcher."

Giles blushes slightly. "A fallen Watcher lately and one in need of another Slayer. Mine seems to feel a need to challenge herself by going to the Hellmouth. I think we need each other, eh? Father Gabriel speaks highly of your skills."

" He does?" Kris blinked, seemingly a little surprised by that before she smirked," And by yours, I'm assuming you mean Rhiannon? I've seen the journal entries."

"Yes. He thinks you could use improvement in some areas but your independence and determination keep you standing. Would you like some tea or coffee? Discuss what you've focused on and where we might work together?"

Kris shrugged her shoulders," Sure, I've been training for long enough. Don't want to push myself too fast, even as a Slayer, my muscles can and will ache." She smirked lightly," Coffee sounds great, I don't drink much tea."

"Well, no one is perfect," Giles teased with his usual dry humor, walking with her out of the gym. "You're probably a barbarian and put ketchup on your chips instead of vinegar."

Kris laughed lightly, following after Giles," I don't know, I kind of like salt and vinegar on my chips."

"Then there's hope for you yet," Giles grinned. "What's your favorite weapon?"

" Sword, I'm into swords." Kris affirmed with a nod.

Giles nodded. "Good choice, with a stake as backup, yes? Which sword do you prefer?"

" Of course, can't go anywhere without a good ole fashioned stake." Kris said with a smirk," And as for swords, I like the Japanese variety. Preferrably a Katana." She said with a smile.

"I'm more European oriented, I'm afraid. I like a cutlass or a Russian sword. No guard to get caught on clothing when pulling them out and small enough to hide in a coat. Not all of us are Highlanders running around in trench coats," he smiled and began making tea and coffee.

Kris chuckled softly," I can see your point, but I'm quite happy to learn new swords, new weapons. I'm all about knowing different things."

"Always an excellent approach!" Brings a cup of coffee over to her along with cream and sugar. "I waited too long to show Buffy the sword, we dealt with mostly vampires and stakes were enough at the time. What about book learning? Any interests in learning about what's attacking you?"

Kirs nodded, smiling as she took the cup of coffee," Of course, it helps to know your enemies. I mean it's all well and good knowing how to kill them, as yeah it's what we do. But even better to know what makes them tick, and to know thy enemy is to know thy self. Or something like that." She poured some cream into her coffee and added a bit of sugar, a little shy to be expressing herself.

Giles nodded and sat down with his tea. "Excellent approach. Can I tell you a secret?"

" Sure, I promise I won't tell anyone." Kris said stoicly as she did a little cross above her heart, then took a sip of her coffee.

Giles chuckled. "There used to be a Slayer handbook, filled with rules, background, history, demonology and such. The day I met Buffy Summers, I tossed the book."

Kris smirked lightly," Looks like you did the best thing possible then."

"I think so," the Watcher smiled softly. "I learned that Slayers are very different and can't be approached and trained by strict rules. Then I met Faith! I think I burned her copy of the handbook."

Kris snorted softly before pondering," Don't think I have a handbook."

Giles smiled. "They went up with the rest of the Council. We fly blind from our own experiences now. It might take a bit for you and I to discover weaknesses and strengths but we'll give it a go."

" More than happy to." Kris said with a nod as she sipped at her coffee," I look forward to it, it will be good to have a Watcher again. And especially you, because yeah, you know.." She trailed off, grinning lightly and shrugging.

"I'm old and experienced?" Giles smirked. "Got plenty of scars and bangs on the head to show for it. What would you like to work on?"

" I wasn't saying that." Kris commented with a chuckle before she nodded," I want to know more about demons, my enemies. Also I want to work on my defense and ability to adapt to new situations."

Giles nodded and sipped his tea. "Just no reciting old spells and rituals aloud, please. How are you at knife fighting? Its slightly different from a stake."

" I'm killer." Kris said with a grin, before she arched an eyebrow," Uh not too big on the magick front, so I don't think you need worry about that."

"Perhaps we could practice, I might be a bit rusty on my end," Giles suggested. "I was damned good once and would like to train Buffy and the others at it. How about meeting me in the library after the rest of your workout and shower? We'll go over the books and see where you've studied and such."

" Sounds great." Kris said with a smile," Been wanting to read a lot more, Matt's learnt me a few books but I've already read them."

Giles looked at her with raised eyebrows. "This might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship," he quipped. "I'll meet you there."

---------------

Got to say, I'm looking forward to having Giles as my watcher. He's like the ultimate watcher and I know I have a lot to learn, and I just hope I won't disappoint him.
