John Hughes

I normally don't post 80s stuff but John Hughes just died of a heart attack at age 59. Director of Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Buehler's Day Off, Home Alone, etc. This guy had an impact on 80s culture comparable to Michael Jackson if you ask me. Leave a comment

I'm sure you're right. It may be a case of comparing apples and oranges, but in terms of wit, social commentary, and entertainment value, the bulk of his pre-Home Alone films easily trump any of MJ's output.

Of course his death hasn't gotten anywhere near the same publicity, but you know, maybe that's to his credit. I just read this really nice blog entry about him, had you seen it? http://wellknowwhenwegetthere.blogspot.com/2009/08/sincerely-john-hughes.html

Was one of five Hughes items direct linked in IMDb's news section. At least in film community circles this is a pretty big deal.
