I used to be the never give up type, but after much thought have decided that it's a tad creepy. I've been learning how to give people up this past year, bunches of them, and it's going ok.
Get a Neti-Pot, they are awesome. I had to start using one after my sinus surgery, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. You tend to fill your nasal cavities with irritating smoky things, I bet if you rinsed them out every night they would feel better overall :) Plus it does help a lot when you have a cold. It provides some short term relief and will help all of the symptoms go away faster.
I got mine at Fred Meyer. I am sure Walgreens or pretty much any other drugstore has one. Usually it's the Neil-Med brand (I think) which is nice because it comes with premixed packets. They make a big deal of using distilled water, but I always used warm tap water and thought it was just fine. You just fill up the pot, add the packet, shake shake shake, then tilt your head and let it drain through. It feels really weird at first, but after awhile it is the most incredible thing haha.
+1 on the Neti Pot -- they are fantastic for allergies, the beginning and ends of sinus infections, and for colds.
Mine came from the food coop in Bellingham, I'd bet PCC carries them too. I usually just use warm tap water and some salt and I haven't had any problems.
I have no idea what netipot is but I highly recommend stinging nettle tea. it tastes like ass but it works amazingly. I know a lady up here who sells wild nettle tea but I'm sure you could find it at any natural foods or supplement store in Seattle. Just a thought.
I've also heard of the health benefits but shyed away because dude, it's nettles. If not prepared right, your sore throat will be 50 billion times worse!
