Remus Lupin was tired.

The last couple weeks had been nearly as stressful as these same two weeks the year previous. A year ago he'd had one of the hardest transformations of his life, had finished training Harry in some of the darkest magic known to wizarding kind, had led his small band of werewolves into a battle only half of them were truly capable of fighting, dragged Harry out of the aftermath and to the hospital, spent a tense ten days watching Harry and the other struggle to recover their injuries, and finally had their lives turned upside down by the Registry and moved the remnants of his pack here, to Spinner's End, much to the consternation of more than a few of his friends and acquaintences.

This year, he'd watched everyone he cared about go through the emotional upheaval of rembrances, rode a damned float in the Ministry parade, finally stood up to say his piece -- only to have no one understand or appreciate it, had dinner with 'Dora for the first time since he started seeing Severus, argued with Severus over whether or not it was a blasted date, watched as the world once again turned a blind-eye to the dangers still living amoung them, and gone through another exausting transformation.

All he needed was the lingering Cruciatus damage on top of the aches of the transformation and the sense of deja vu would be complete.

On top of everything else, he had the nagging sensation that he'd forgotten something important about today. That, more than anything was keeping him from falling asleep. War or no war, they still lived in very dangerous times and he only hoped whatever it was he'd forgotten would come back to him before it turned out to be something serious. But, while he wasn't as fuzzy mentally as he usually was so soon after the return to his own body, his memory of what was important about today wasn't any clearer.

Yawning widely, he turned over onto his back in a vain attempt at relieving the pain in his right shoulder. The stresses of the last couple weeks had taken their toll in a stressful transformation. Though no official studies seemed to have been done, -- why would they? It was "only werewolves". -- Remus has gone through enough transformations to believe that the more relaxed the werewolf before the transformation, the easier on the body the transformation was. Last night he had not been relaxed, he'd been restless even in his altered form. This morning, his joints were paying the price for it.

So, he hurt from head to toe, he was exausted, he couldn't sleep, and the world was still going to hell around him. Somehow, the bright sunlight beginning to peek through the curtains seemed like one big joke.

Sighing explosively, he shifted again, slipping a pillow beneath his hips to take the pressure off his lower back, and closed his eyes. Maybe if he pretended he was asleep, his body would believe it and let him actually get some sleep.
