Former Auror Found Dead!
Proof at Scene Points to Werewolf Attack
by Dabriel Lochrin
Ms. Raithen Cain, former Auror for the Ministry of Magic and upstanding member of the wizarding community, was found dead in the secluded back garden of her family estate late yesterday afternoon. Ms. Cain lived alone and was not in any formal occupation at the time of her death, estimated to be roughly two weeks ago, on the night of the last full moon. Due to her secluded lifestyle and propensity for travel, she was not suspected missing until recently by friend and former colleague, Auror Nymphadora Tonks.
The nature of Ms. Cain’s death was evident, or so stated by Tonks during an exclusive Daily Prophet interview.
Ms. Cain was the victim of a brutal and violent attack. When asked to recount the state of Ms. Cain’s remains, Tonks had this to say about what she observed, “Nothing that looked like my teacher! She trained me, you know? She was an Auror long before I was. She was….. Was practically in pieces! Worse thing about it- it looked as if she had been that way for ages. Weeks. She was decomposing when I found her.”
So who could have enacted such a grisly murder? When asked, Auror Tonks confirmed the suspicions of this reporter. “It was obvious whom. Fenrir Greyback! He had torn her to pieces, starting at her neck. You could tell it wasn’t an ordinary animal attack by the size of the wounds on her. But- he also left his mark. His print within a circle, in blood, on the wall of her house. Which means it probably happened during the full moon.” Fenrir Greyback was a known follower of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and was reported as having escaped during the final battle. His whereabouts have been unknown since that day, just over two months ago. With no evidence of an attack by the werewolf during the first full moon after the end of the war or the proceeding, until now, many believed that the Dark Creature had been killed or suffered fatal injures before his escape. It’s obvious now that neither is the case.
In light of the recent murder, the Minister of Magic, Rudiger Shingelton released this statement early this morning, “The Ministry will be working around the clock in the pursuit and inevitable capture of the werewolf, Fenrir Greyback. The populace can rest assured that the Ministry is doing everything in its power toward this goal, including the utilization of The Registry. It is situations like this one that prove the Registry to be an invaluable resource for the law-abiding Wizarding Community. Creatures like this and the violence they bring to our society are exactly why the Registry was created. We are now able to track unsavory Lycanthropic activity, pinpointing any possible accomplices of Greyback that can lead us to him. We have every confidence that Greyback will be captured before the next full moon. This will be a lone occurrence.”
Shortly afterwards, a separate Ministry official also released this statement, “The Ministry would like to convey its condolences to the remaining family and friends of Ms. Raithen Cain. As a former employee of the Ministry, she will be sorely missed. The Ministry would also like to stress the need for caution and safety during these times. We urge the community to remain indoors at night and to not wander off alone. Should an apprehension of the werewolf elude the authorities before the full moon on the 18th of this month, take proper precautions to protect you and yours from the lycanthropic threat that night. Thank you.”
