“Casey! Caseeeey!”

Leaning against a DVD display case near the Buy More main entrance, John Casey growls under his breath, pointedly refusing to tear his eyes from the latest issue of Car and Driver even as frantic footsteps skid to a stop directly next to him.

“You mind, Bartowski?” he grunts, not needing to look up to identify the culprit. “Can’t you see I’m trying to read?”

“And I’m sure that article about the Detroit Auto Show is truly fascinating,” Chuck says quickly, leaning over to scan the title at the top of the page, “but listen, you’re kind of standing in a really, uh, really not-so-good spot. You think you could move over, maybe? Just a couple of feet?”

Casey finally glances up, frowning at the agitation on Chuck’s face. “What’s the matter, you flash on something?”

“No!” Chuck says immediately, eyes widening as he shakes his head rapidly. “No, no flashing. No guns, no explosions, no hostages. I mean…” He breaks into a smile, the one that Casey always thinks makes him look like a demented clown, sans makeup. “It’s almost Christmas, you know? You think we can have one holiday without any crazy, uh, spy stuff going on?”

“Sure, Bartowski,” Casey mutters as he returns to his article, any semblance of interest gone now that he knows there’s no imminent threat to national security. Chuck’s anxiety, however, only seems to increase exponentially, particularly as he glances out the store’s front window.

“Sarah’s coming!” he yelps. “Look, Casey, I really need you to move now. You do not want to be standing there, trust me. Okay? Buddy?”

“Dammit, Chuck!” Casey barks, but finally pushes off the display case and backs up several feet just as the silver sleigh bells on the front door begin to jingle, sounding merrily as though announcing the arrival of an angel.

“And from the goofy grin on his face, you’d think she was an angel,” Casey mutters to himself, rolling his eyes as Chuck beams at Sarah, who returns the grin with one of equal wattage.

“Hey, Sarah,” Chuck raises a hand in greeting as the petite blond agent comes to a stop in front of him, close to where Casey had been just a moment before. “Merry Christmas.”

“Merry Christmas to you too, Chuck,” she returns, still smiling at him as she pushes a wavy lock of hair over her shoulder. “Though you know, Christmas isn’t actually for another couple of days, yet.”

“Yeah, I know,” he grins, and points to the ceiling. “Look.”

Her gaze follows his finger automatically, and her forehead furrows slightly. “Is that-”

She doesn’t get to finish before her lips are otherwise thoroughly occupied, and Casey looks up from his magazine with one eyebrow raised.

“Oh,” he mutters before shaking his head and turning the page. “Damn mistletoe.”
