Back pain & sleep (or lack thereof)

Sep 29, 2008 10:07

I'm sleeeeeeepy. I need to figure out how to fix my back. I'm not sleeping properly, which is not helping the Megan-who-already-requires-naps. I'm scared to go to a chiropractor, but I can't find an osteopath anywhere. I don't know that massage would help, but maybe I should try that first?

I'm sure others may disagree, but my doctor told me it was OK to use a heating pad for short periods of time. The deal with heating pads and hot baths and such is that you just don't want to raise your body temperature too high. They're OK in moderation.

Assuming you're sleeping on your right side? My doc also advised me to do that. Also, if you're getting heartburn---more pregnancy fun!---take something before bed to keep it at bay; it can interrupt the quality of your sleep, even if it doesn't wake you.

Good luck. I hope you feel more rested soon.

Go to a massage therapist over a chiro. It may well be you're bed as well; I think at least around here they sell stuff at the drugstore to help with lying down, backsupport, etc. You might be able to ask the pharmacist. Maybe something to help support your spine while you're sleeping on your side, as best as you can?

A lot of back issues start with the feet, too -- you might want to make sure you've got good foot support.... if you're spending a lot of time sitting down, those back support rests and stuff might help abit too.

don't be scared of chiropractors when you're pregnant. I know from being a doula and from experience that its actually a great thing to see a chiropractor when you're pregnant. It stopped me from having all of the aches and pains that the pregnant people around me were having. I had none of that. Plus they say that you have less pain and a faster labour if you've had regular chiropractic care throughout your pregnancy. I bet there would be info if you googled it....
