Who: Gokudera (
fiftyninebomb) and Chrome (
tridental)
When: The afternoon of Wednesday June 18th
Where: Some movie theater and then an ice cream parlor in Namimori
What: Gokudera and Chrome wanted to hang out together
Why: Because not even Gokudera can resist Chrome's adorableness
Gokudera Hayato sat straight up in his seat, allowing his eyes to scan the ending credits for Iron Man. His mouth, agape from the utter shock and admiration for the movie, twitched a little. He hadn't taken his eyes off the screen for the entirety that he had been there. The screen went black after a moment, and he squirmed in his seat. Then he stretched his arms up over his head, glanced his left and grinned at his movie-companion, Chrome Dokuro. "That was fucking awesome," he said to her, hearing his joints crack as he stretched.
As the movie ended, Chrome let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding, and sat back in her chair. That had been... well, very loud. But very, very exciting; she was positive that she had maybe gotten a little too into the movie at several points, and had grabbed hold of Gokudera's hand on each occasion. A blush returned to her face at the memories, but she remained still, and nodded (not looking over at him, because that probably wouldn't help any). "It was very good," she agreed.
The movie had been excellent - full of explosions, bombs, fires, superheroes, robots, bad guys, funny moments and more explosions - and he was glad that he'd taken the day off to see it. Granted, he had been reluctant at first since he preferred not to leave the hideout or the Tenth, but it was well worth it. Especially after the events from two days ago and the supposed "coupling" between himself and Chrome. Nevertheless, Gokudera had gotten over it and figured he'd enjoy his couple hours outside of the complex. "Yeah, definitely," he replied as he let his arms down, his green eyes focused idly on her pale face. He could see the blush upon her cheeks from the angle in which he sat. "We should probably get going."
Chrome didn't have to look to know Gokudera was watching her, and her blush deepened as she couldn't help feeling just a little awkward. "Y-yes, we should," she said, perhaps a too hastily, and stood up to straighten her dress out and pick up their empty popcorn bag from the floor.
It had been large enough to share- in fact, that's what it had meant to be- but she had eaten a majority of it, as she always ended up doing. "I'm sorry..." Her mouth grew a little tight with embarrassment. "I didn't mean to eat so much of it..."
Gokudera slouched a little, and glanced away from Chrome before he stood up. He couldn't help but think about how cute she looked when she blushed, or really, how cute she looked in general.
Hearing her speak again, he looked down at her. "Huh? Oh, it's alright," he said as he shrugged his shoulders and slipped his hands into his jeans pockets. "I don't really like popcorn anyway." He paused. "I was thinking of getting some ice cream now anyway."
"...If you say so," Chrome answered halfheartedly; she still felt bad. But she looked up again at him when he mentioned ice cream. "That would be nice," she answered, smiling slightly. A moment passed before she fiddled with the hem of her dress again, a little cautious to lead the way out of the theater.
"All right. Let's go then," Gokudera said, figuring he'd lead them out of the theater. Shuffling his feet a little, he moved through the aisle. He paused when he got to the exit, waiting for Chrome to catch up with him. "I know a good place we can go," he said quietly, walking beside her now.
"Okay..." Chrome responded as she hurried to catch up with him. She remained quiet as they walked out of the the theatre, walking maybe closer to Gokudera than she normally would have (she didn't like the idea of getting lost, but that was really only part of it).
Taking his hands out his pockets, Gokudera looked at Chrome again and grinned. They were walking far too close, but he didn't really mind. Letting his hands hang at his sides, he steered them out the front door of the theater and onto the street. "It's this way," he said, picking up his walking pace as another couple brushed past them. As they turned a corner, he moved a little closer to Chrome's side, his fingers brushing against hers gently in the process.
Chrome had to walk quicker than normal to keep up with Gokudera, and started a little when she felt his hand brush against hers. She gasped quietly at the contact, cheeks turning red, and slowed down a few paces as she fought against the enormous urge to reach out and take his hand and close the distance between them. But that would be too bold- it wouldn't be right, she told herself with a disappointed finality, and kept walking.
Gokudera felt a small shiver when he fingers brushed Chrome's, and he fought the urge to glance down at her. His first thought was to take it and hold it while he tried to fight off the blush creeping upon his cheeks. If he held her hand, it obviously wouldn't mean anything, but at the same time, it wouldn't hurt anything either. It'd be audacious - ohgodhedidn'tholdhands - but it'd seem a lot nicer than just walking beside each other. Walking just a little quicker, he moved out his hand and angled it until his fingers brushed Chrome's again. He cleared his throat while he wrapped his fingers slowly around hers, keeping his eyes forward and focused on whatever was in front of them.
Chrome really hadn't thought she could blush anymore until Gokudera took her hand in his. But she did, and took a sharp breath as she felt her heart skip several beats. None of this was anything she had ever experienced before, and being with Gokudera, of all people, didn't help matters much.
But it still felt nice. Really, really nice. So she quickly looked up at Gokudera, watching to see what he was doing, before lowering her head when he didn't look at her and gently closing her fingers around his hand. She looked down at the ground as she kept walking, forcing herself not to look up to see his reaction.
Gokudera took a sharp breath as he tightened his fingers slightly around Chrome's, feeling her fingers slip in between his own. He didn't hold hands, nor did he really like doing it; it always felt like a sappy thing to him. Something that lovers or married couples do when they walk down the street together. However, it didn't feel bad and Chrome's hand was warm, inviting.
He didn't look down at her, though. His cheeks were crimson red, and he felt inclined to pull out another cigarette to mask his expression, even if just a little. He wanted to walk faster, make them to get to the ice cream place more quickly, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. The ice cream place could wait, he thought, and he could just enjoy this moment just a little longer.
The squeeze of Gokudera's hand took Chrome by surprise, and her mouth became a thin line once more, as it had for a moment in the theater. She didn't look up, though, and they kept walking. Once, she opened her mouth to speak, but closed it once she realized she couldn't think of anything she could possibly say. Her steps became slower and more awkward; it was partly because she felt awkward, but also because this was nice and she didn't want Gokudera to let go, even though she guessed- assumed? hoped?- that the ice cream parlor was close by.
Gokudera felt several pairs of eyes on them, and he arched his shoulders inward just a little as if to hide himself. He had forgotten about the rest of the general public, and he should have expected it, but it wouldn't have mattered. After all, they weren't the most conventional "couple." He had long, silver hair and a pretty face, and she was young, cute and wearing an eye patch. They stuck out like sore thumbs together, but Gokudera refused to let this unnerve him. The ice cream parlor was right around the corner, and he really wanted a cigarette, too. "It's right around the corner," he said, still not looking at her.
Together, they turned the corner and the ice cream parlor - a small shop painted red with large windows - was right there. Gokudera wondered if he should let go of Chrome's hand first before they went inside, but he thought against it and pushed forward, opening the door for the both of them to the inside of the ice cream parlor.
Chrome noticed people staring at the two of them, and she quickly ducked her head and fretted for the fifteenth time that day about if the dress she had chosen looked nice, if they looked acceptable, if their holding hands wasn't too forward (since they weren't really dating, after all), almost sighing in relief when Gokudera said the parlor was close.
She followed him in and looked around for a minute, her eye growing wide with excitement. "It looks nice," she commented after a moment, moving a little closer to Gokudera for comfort.
"Yeah, it's pretty nice," Gokudera replied. He had come here with the Tenth, the baseball idiot, that stupid cow and some other people a few times before. Their green tea ice cream was pretty good, and the interior was well decorated. It sorta reminded him of the little ice cream place he went to sometimes when he was a kid.
"So, what do you want?" he asked her, leading them both over to the counter. This time, he glanced over at her, his cheeks still pink and flaring. "The green tea ice cream is good."
Chrome stood quietly at the counter for a minute, staring in just a little bit of wonder at how many different kinds there were. She wanted to try Gokudera's recommendation, try something new, but... She just wasn't sure. "I think... I just want chocolate," she said with a sigh.
Gokudera studied her while she decided, his lips twitching a little. He hadn't had a cigarette in over three hours, and he had willed himself not to smoke in front of her. However, a little ice cream, Gokudera thought, might quell his urge to smoke for just a little longer. "All right, one chocolate for you," he said, glancing over at the clerk at the counter. "Do you want it on a cone or in a dish?"
"U-um, a dish is fine..." Chrome answered. She still felt awkward, and looked around the parlor, trying to think of something she could do while Gokudera was busy at the counter. "D-do you want me to go, um, find a place to sit down?"
Gokudera looked back at her then back at the clerk. "One chocolate in a dish and one green tea on a cone, please," he said, trying not to scowl at the acne covered clerk's face. When he heard Chrome speak again, he glanced back at her and nodded. "Yeah, sure. I'll be over in a minute," he replied, his expression lessening from a scowl to a very, very small smile. "And I'll pay. So don't worry about that."
"O-okay!" Chrome nodded, and turned to walk away. She looked around the parlor and bit down on her lip as she tried to find a good spot, finally settling on one by the window. Aware of a few people watching her, she sat down, fidgeting with her dress and feeling more than a little self-conscious.
Gokudera leaned against the counter, resting his elbow on the counter top and waited for the clerk to finish dishing up their ice cream. He reached into his pocket and pulled out some bills, his fingers brushing his pack of cigarettes in the process, and he frowned just a little. Stupid cravings. He knew he could restrain himself just for a little longer.
The clerk finally came back with the ice cream, Gokudera handed him the money before murmuring a 'thank you' and then scanned the area for where Chrome was. He nodded when he saw her, and made his way over to her. "Hey," he said, sitting down across from her and sliding her bowl of chocolate ice cream over to her.
Chrome straightened up a little bit when Gokudera approached, and nodded when he handed her the ice cream. "Thank you," she answered. She took a small spoonful of the ice cream, trying so hard to make it last, and slowly took a bite of it. As she did so, she blushed, and her eye went wide in surprise. "This... This is really good!" She exclaimed quietly.
Watching her closely, Gokudera leaned back in his chair with his ice cream cone - some of it had started to melt onto his hand and he begun to slowly lick it off - and watched Chrome start to eat her ice cream. "... I'm glad," he replied in between licks. He kinda couldn't help but smile just a little bit at her when she was like this. Continuing to eat his ice cream, Gokudera directed his attention away from Chrome for just a little bit by looking out the window every few moments. Outside on the street, people passed by, going about their daily business and other normal things that would happen outside on a busy avenue. In some ways, it felt a little surreal.
Chrome watched Gokudera lick the ice cream off his hand, and blushed once she realized she was staring, almost immediately turning her attention to the ice cream in front of her. She mashed some of it around with her spoon before eating a little bit more, trying to make it last as long as possible. After a few moments she looked back up at Gokudera to find him looking out the window, so she held her gaze until he turned back, and then looked back down at the table.
It didn't take Gokudera long to polish off his ice cream cone - mostly because Chrome ate their popcorn at the movie theater, and he was sorta hungry - and he wiped his hands off with a napkin before settling back in his seat. However, Gokudera had no idea what to say to Chrome, and the silence inside the ice cream parlor definitely didn't help. He could practically hear the clink of her spoon against the bowl, and it made him squirm a little in his seat. Glancing over at her, he watched her stir her ice cream around, and he tried to think of something to say, something to break the silence.
"... I can walk you to the train station," he said finally.
Chrome looked up when Gokudera responded, and smiled. "I'd like that," she nodded, but blushed and pursed her lips a little bit when she saw he was already finished. "Sorry, I- I'll be done soon," she answered, and ate the last few spoonfuls of ice cream quicker than she had been (which really wasn't saying much, since she had been going very slowly), scooping up the melted remainders of ice cream left in the bowl within a few minutes.
"There," she said finally, setting the spoon in the bowl. She moved to stand up, but hesitated and looked up at Gokudera, watching to see if he was ready.
Gokudera nodded, lowering his gaze a little. "It's not a big deal. Take your time," he said as she ate the rest of her ice cream. Really, he was in no rush - okay, that wasn't true because he needed to see what the Tenth was doing later tonight - and he didn't want to push her away just quite yet.
"Oh, all right." He blinked and glanced at her empty bowl then up at her face. "Let's go then," he said as he stood up from his chair.
"O-okay." Chrome stood up as well, and turned to head for the door, which was easy since they had sat fairly close. She kept quiet as they began walking down the street, only once opening her mouth to say something. At the last minute, though, she thought better of it, and looked down at her feet. "I... Today was fun," she said instead. "Really fun."
As they walked out of the parlor, Gokudera didn't make an attempt to hold her hand this time, but he did walk closely beside her. Instead, he shoved his hands into his pockets and wrapped his fingers around his pack of cigarettes. He cleared his throat again, keeping his eyes forward as they walked quietly down the street together. "Ah," he said, glancing over at her. "Yeah, it was," he replied, smiling just a little at her. "It was a nice time."
They turned a corner, and Gokudera could see the sign for the train station. "We should--We should hang out again."
"If you want to... I'd really like that," Chrome answered, smiling a little bit, though she kept her eye down. They stopped in front of the station, and she finally raised her head and turned to look at him. "W-well, um... Thank you," she said, smiling.
"Yeah, I do want to," Gokudera said, taking his hands out of his pockets. "... And you're welcome," he said, grinning just a little at her again. He hesitated for a moment before moving closer and awkwardly wrapping his arms around her, pulling her lightly against him.
The hug was definitely unexpected, and Chrome turned a deep red, her heart suddenly pounding in her chest at the proximity, at how surprisingly warm Gokudera was. It was a little while before she got used to it, but then she cautiously reached around and returned the hug. It was nice. Really, really nice, and she didn't know if she wanted him to let go.
Inside Gokudera's mind, the cogs and gears spun out of the control. He hadn't exactly planned on hugging Chrome, but it seemed like a nice thing to do at the time, even if he didn't want them be more than just friends or whatever. However, when Chrome hugged him back, he felt an odd shiver go through him and his cheeks turned a deep red. He felt tempted to pull away at that moment out of a self-defense mechanism, but he refrained. Finally, after another half of a minute, Gokudera pulled away, arms sliding to his side, and he looked at her, cheeks ablaze with a crimson blush.
Biting his lip, he spoke. "Uh, I guess I'll see you."
Chrome pulled away only a moment after Gokudera did, blushing just as hard. "O-okay, um..." She looked down at her feet, then back up at him again. "I'll see you." She took a few steps back, then turned and walked up the steps to the station, still blushing, and looking down at her feet the entire way. It was only before she went through the doors that she turned to look at Gokudera again, smiling as she did so before she vanished inside.
Gokudera's eyes followed Chrome as she pulled away, stepped back and turned to leave. He hadn't made an attempt to hide his blush, and he hadn't made a mad dash for his pack of cigarettes yet. Instead, he watched her go through the train doors and turn to look back at him, noticing that enchanting smile upon her face. The door closed shut and Gokudera turned his back to the train, beginning to walk away from the station platform. His hands slid back into his pockets again, and he grinned to himself as the train sped away behind him.
