[ Character's Name ] : Mori Ranmaru
[ Character's Age ] : Pre-teens to mid-teens, maybe?
[ Series ] : Sengoku BASARA anime verse
[ Canon Point ] : Post first season

[ History ] :
Ranmaru served under a lord by the name of Oda Nobunaga who was infamously called the Demon King. Fitting to the name, Nobunaga was a cruel and unforgiving but powerful warlord who unified a big portion of the country by overwhelming force.

Ranmaru plays actually a minor role in his canon even if he was one of the generals who was sent to the battlefields and completed missions. Largely due to his age. His major appearances are:

1) Imagawa assassination, when he killed one of the decoys thought to Imagawa.

2) Helped Nohime, Nobunaga's wife, assassinate Uesugi Kenshin who was fatally wounded, but not dead, as the result.

3) Honnouji incident, when he led a troop to burn down the temple where Date Masamune, Sanada Yukimura, and Akechi Mitsuhide were trapped. Although he ordered his soldiers to return, he entered the temple in hopes of helping Mitsuhide whom he thought was going to die. They two face Date and Sanada - however, Ranmaru proved to be no match for One-Eyed Dragon. Date's retainer, Katakuro Koujuro, intervened with whereabouts of Oda Nobunaga and fought Mitsuhide in Date and Sanada's stead. Mitsuhide took weakened Ranmaru as a hostage but Koujuro won the fight away. Despite knowing his identity as Nobunaga's general, Koujuro did not kill Ranmaru. Instead he gave him a pouch of seeds and told him to start over.

In the very end of the series, Ranmaru met Itsuki, a peasant girl. It is implied that he started living in her village.

※ To supplement the lack of canon information from the anime, I’ll sometimes add things from the frist two BASARA games. However, they will not be something major or will not influence the anime storyline.

[ Personality ] :
Perhaps the most definite way of describing Ranmaru would be his introductory kanji in the game: 破邪清真.

破 - to destroy, to ruin
邪 - to shoot arrows consecutively / crooked
清 - untainted, clean
真 - verity

Ranmaru can be a little devil (often called “Demon King’s Child.”). He loves to play pranks and demand things that interest him. Sometimes with force. His childish cruelty can stretch to more sinister side as he has slain many people for the sake of being recognized by his lord. However, it could be that he has never really thought about the consequences of killing before. Not before he almost tasted his own. And considering that he had Nobunaga and Nohime as parent figures, it might not be a big surprise that he did what he was told instead of pondering moral aspects of his actions.

The kid does have his good side. Believe it or not, he is loyal to those whom he has attachments to. For example, when he thought Mitsuhide was going to die in Honnouji, he sneaked in the temple to save him, saying the following: "I don't like you that much, but I'll save you because you look so pitiful. So apologize to Nobunaga-sama." As you can see, he is a tsundere. He even picks up a katana and staggers into the burning building when Mitsuhide and Koujuro were fighting even though he was clearly weakened.

When series started, he was a confident but immature brat. But it is evident from his traveling that he is trying to seek out a reason for living after his lord died and that he has taken Katakura Koujuro's words seriously to his heart. ("Go somewhere and offer your services to a lord and survive on your own strength.")

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
In terms of fighting, Ranmaru is definitely stronger than most boys around his age. He's quick on his feet, can jump to extreme heights and ride horses. His trademark weapon is bow and arrow, and his arrows, like other character's weapons in the series, can be used with an element. In his case, thunder. But because of his small stature, he is awful at close combat or sheer brute force.

Outside of combat, he has a soft spot for sweets and snacks.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
*So he started wondering around in Honnouji after Nobunaga died and then he ended up in Hokkaido, which is far, far north of where he was (Kyoto). ... It is a mystery how he walked that far. O_o
*In the games, he keeps a picture diary.
*Speaks in third person often.
