Chapter three
Third song ~ Our story - Prologue
I want to feel you just a little longer like this, the damp wind blowing over the guardrail
You lean on my right shoulder, gently brushing your blushing face with your hand,
We’ve started.
Our story, it starts from here.
It all starts pretty innocently. We meet someone and we think that this may be the only time we see that person. We met for the second time and start to talk, to discover that maybe we have things in common which lead us to being friends. From friends to lovers is just a small step to make and from lovers to strangers again, it’s even a faster road to walk on.
It all starts with a look. Our eyes meet and we feel weird, we feel something that we’ve never felt before. We deny it because we don’t know what’s happening to us, but he can’t ignore for ever the voice from our head that keeps telling us that we’ve in love. We argue, we fight, we get mad but in the end we end up still together, still fighting and still searching for each other. It’s the way it is. And we can’t change it.
Because when the signs of love start to appear… no one can stop it anymore.
Kazuya sighed as he looked up at the tall building he had just seen yesterday. He couldn’t believe that he really had to wake Akanishi Jin up just because the actor didn’t have an internal clock or even an external alarm clock. But it was work and Kazuya would do anything for his work, so he braced himself and went up to wake the famous star who couldn’t even do such a simple thing by himself.
Five minutes later he was standing in front of Jin’s door and inserted the key he had been given a day before. It was a funny feeling, having the key of another apartment when not even with his former girlfriends did he share such an intimate action. He ignored the sudden beating of his heart and entered the apartment which was dark and somehow unfriendly. Kazuya sighed at this fact because it was already ten o’clock in the morning and he felt an urge to open the windows. Of course he did that as well as he drew the curtains, because Kazuya wasn’t that fond of dark places and he really loved a well lit room which gave off the feeling of refreshment. Then he proceeded to Jin’s room, wondering what wonders he will find there.
The same darkness welcomed him and Kazuya had to feel the wall in order to get to the window’s curtains. With a quiet squeal of victory, he pulled them apart, immediately looking at Jin who grunted and hid his head under the pillows. The assistant sighed and went to Jin, ready to shake the man seeing that he had no desire to wake up. Still, Jin didn’t move more than turning his back on Kazuya and the bright light that came from outside, clutching the sheets around him and curling into a ball in the middle of the bed to make the cold go away. He licked his lips and a peaceful smile appeared on his face as Jin continued to wander on the land of dreams, letting himself be trapped into the hands of that beautiful girl that his dream had produced.
Seeing the actor stupidly smiling over whatsoever dream, Kazuya decided that he was going to have a hard time with waking Jin up. So he climbed into the bed and pulled the sheets so that he could get a hold of Jin’s body and to shake him a little, just enough to wake him up. “Jin…” he said with half of a voice, not really wanting to yell. But the only thing Jin did was to growl annoyed and to brush off with a rude movement Kazuya’s hand of his shoulder. In his dream, he could hear his name being called, but that beautiful blonde was too attractive to be ignored for something that might disappoint him, so Jin decided that he should keep on dreaming, seeing as the girl was… really hot!
Kazuya gritted his teeth at Jin’s reaction and almost wanted to slap the man out of his dream. Yet he calmed down and gripped Jin’s shoulder again and shook him a little more, this time with more force.
”Jin!” he said with a stern voice, not too loud, but not too quiet either. If the man wasn’t going to get up any soon, Kazuya would pour cold water on him and he won’t care at all. Really! How old was Jin again?!
“Shut up!” Jin ordered with a moody voice as he turned around and raised his hand, catching Kazuya by his shoulder and dragging him down on the bed, Jin immediately sliding a leg on him to keep the boy in place and using his hands to bring him closer. He hadn’t opened his eyes for a second and with a happy smile, Jin started to drift to sleep in no time again.
“You gotta be kidding me.” Kazuya muttered, trapped next to Jin and engulfed in his musky scent. He tried to move, tried to push the older away from him because, really now, the man was crushing him! And also his heart, Kazuya mused as he felt the rapid thumping from his chest. “Move!” he tried to shout but his voice was strangled and to Kazuya’s luck, it had the reverse effect. Jin only drew him closer, making the younger feel every bit of Jin’s body, even the ones he wasn’t keen on knowing. “You asked for it…” the assistant muttered again and got even closer, so close that he brought his lips to Jin’s neck and bit hardly on it.
This seemed to have the expected result as Jin yelped in pain and quickly freed Kazuya, battling with his sheets, not knowing what’s happening and finally landing on the floor, covered by his own sheets. “Huh?” was the only thing he said as he tried to figure out where he is, but being unable to do so because the sheets were preventing him to see anything but red - their own color.
“Are you finally awake, stupid?” Kazuya’s growling voice said and soon the light shone on Jin, as the assistant pulled the sheets off, revealing a bed haired and sleepy Jin. “You’re really a pain, you know?” Kazuya hissed through his gritted teeth, his face flushed and his eyes sparkling. It had been too much for him to have to bit Jin, to feel his skin’s taste inside his mouth while his scent invaded his nostrils. Indeed, too much, Kazuya mused as he felt the heat in his face just remembering this incident.
Jin blinked and looked at Kazuya, still not understanding what was happening. He needed a few moments to realize what had happened and that his dream had not been a dream and that the blonde that he had been hugging in his sleep was… Kazuya?!
He blinked again. “Did you just bite me?” he asked with a curious and somehow amused tone, still not moving from the floor.
“No, of course not.” Kazuya immediately lied, not blinking once. “Why, do you want me to bite you?” he replied baring his teeth while his face was still as red as the sheets Jin was surrounded by. And what a hot image did that create.
Jin looked suspiciously at Kazuya and lifted his hand to settle it on the place that Kazuya had bitten. “It still hurts, Kazuya.” He cocked an eyebrow, seeming sure of his words but doubting if he wasn’t mistaking dreams with reality. Again.
“Sorry to disappoint you, but God knows with what chick you’ve been last night that it still hurts.” Kazuya shrugged and got off the bed, wearing an expression of utmost dignity. “Now that you’re awake, move your ass to the shower and hurry up. We have meetings and shootings to attend.” he continued and made his way through the mess that Jin was tangled into.
But Jin still didn’t look convinced so he crossed his arms and pouted, not happy with being ignored or fooled by others. Of course, that only lasted a split of a second as Jin suddenly got an evil idea which made him smirk and look at Kazuya with evil eyes. So he kindly pulled the sheets from under his assistant’s feet, also grabbing his legs to make Kazuya fall and - totally by mistake - landing on Jin’s lap. Not seeming bothered by their position, Jin simply said a “Not before I pay you back” and without letting Kazuya say or do anything, he buried his teeth into the younger’s neck.
Kazuya began to squeal almost like a girl, suppressing a laugh as he tried to push Jin away. “No, stop!” he cried and flapped his legs, a movement that showed he was ticklish and vulnerable in that particular spot.
“Payback time!” Jin laughed as he enjoyed Kazuya’s reaction maybe too much for his own good. He didn’t move, he didn’t breathe for a moment and he never noticed his hands circling the boy’s waist and bringing him closer as Jin bit Kazuya again on the same spot - a little more softer though.
“No, stop, please!” Kazuya laughed and his body shivered as his own hands clutched around Jin’s shirt, wanting the other to stop because it tickled too much and he even had tears from so much laughter. “If you don’t stop…” Kazuya squealed and tossed in Jin’s arms. “… you’ll wake up covered in bruises!” he threatened though his warning was followed by a fit of laughter.
“Well, it can’t be worse than bites.” Jin simply shrugged and ignored Kazuya’s warnings, continuing to tickle him. That is, until he accidentally hit the table with his hand, winced in pain, tried to straighten himself only to put his foot wrong and fall on his back. The perfect day, isn’t it?
“Moron.” Kazuya groaned now on top of Jin, all red in the face and his neck ticklish and marked. He lifted his body and made the mistake to look down at Jin who was now so close to his face that he could sense the other’s breath and he was sure Jin could sense his too. He gulped once and his eyes flickered for one stupid second to the other’s lips. Kazuya frowned and cursed under his breath and made a move to get up from the floor and… Jin. “Go and shower.” He muttered, ruffling his hair.
“In a sec.” Jin replied, stretching his arms and legs on the floor, looking at the ceiling and seeming to be dreaming with his eyes opened. “I just need a coffee and then I’ll be good to go.” He chuckled, but didn’t make any move.
“Oi. Move already.” Kazuya kicked him gently with his foot. “We don’t have time to be lazy about.” He continued, then he lowered and pinched the other’s nose. “I’ll make coffee so hurry.” He smiled and then left the bedroom.
Jin sighed and looked at the closed door of his bedroom. It was weird, that tingling feeling from his chest. He had never felt like this before but Jin figured that it must be because it had been a long time since he had someone to take care of him. Friends were friends and as many as Jin had - in America or Japan - it wasn’t the same as when someone even closer to you said or did the same things. His manager could never compare with his mom though, so why could Kazuya? Why couldn’t he ignore the beating of his heart and why couldn’t he act like usually when he was around Kazuya? Was he replacing his mom with Kazuya in his mind?
He sighed again. Maybe he should at least call his mom. He was sure that she had seen the show with Jin last night and she was already preparing herself to scold her son for not contacting her since he came back. Jin closed his eyes, grimacing only at the thought of what’s expecting him. With another sigh, he left the floor and headed for his bathroom to take a short shower. He finished washing up and dressing himself in fifteen minutes and soon he left his room, being led by the sweet and refreshing smell of coffee towards the kitchen.
“I could kiss you for this.” Jin said with a goofy smile as he entered the room and breathed in the smell of fresh made coffee, a happy expression plastered on his face.
Kazuya had to be grateful that he wasn’t drinking anything because he would have choked on it. He had thought of such a stupid thing earlier when they had been tangled up in those stupid red sheets, but he could blame it on the color, on his ticklish neck and his assignment who had to look so darn sexy just woken up. “Dare and I’ll cook your balls.” He said, leaning above the table as he was checking their schedule for today, drinking in the same time some coffee for himself.
“Ha!” Jin squealed with an exaggerated voice, covering his mouth with his hand and looking completely shocked. “You evil man!” he then scolded, trying very hard to hide his laugher while he poured a cup of coffee for himself too and settled at the table, a blissful expression appearing on his face as soon as the first drop of the black liquid touched his lips.
Kazuya chuckled and looked amused at Jin’s expression. “I may be evil but I can see that you love my coffee.” The assistant winked and he went to the sink to wash his mug.
“I love everyone’s coffee.” Jin simply shrugged as he sipped again on his coffee, half of it already finished as he really needed it to start a new day. He could finally feel his eyes completely opened, not blinded by sleep or anything else. Coffee was indeed a miracle for him, he thought to himself as he sighed contently.
“HA!” now it was Kazuya’s turn to scoff. “Yeah, you love everyone, but I’m not sure it’s because of the coffee.” he added and began to rub the mug with force though it wasn’t that necessary. Yet he felt irked by Jin’s answer and that was because usually everyone praised his coffee and food, so… why was Jin an exception? The assistant felt frustrated and he almost broke the mug as he put it down with a loud thud.
“Ouch!” Jin winced as he heard the loud noise made by the mug as Kazuya more-or-less threw it on the counter. A sudden thought made way into his mind and even if Jin should have learned by now that his ideas aren’t exactly bright, especially when it concerned Kazuya, he couldn’t stop the smirk from appearing on his lips as he turned to look at his assistant or his words that simply slipped out of his mouth before he could stop them: “Are you jealous by any chance?”
Kazuya threw Jin a glare and his fingers curled around the mug, almost wanting to hit him with it in the head. “Jealous of what? Of your taste in coffee?” he cocked an eyebrow while his eyes narrowed. “Don’t make me laugh when I want to cry at your poor standards in coffee.” He shrugged, now throwing a pitiful look to the actor.
“So you’re saying that your coffee is poor too?” Jin asked with curious eyes looking at his assistant. “Because I personally love it!” he added with a grin, taking one last sip and finishing his coffee. He left his chair and turned to go to the sink and wash it, but slumped down back on it when his stomach growled and Jin groaned. He then sighed and crossed his arms on the table, settling his head on them and closing his eyes. “I hate mornings.” He stated with a serious voice, but at least not sleepy anymore, just very tired.
And in twenty minutes everything was finished and Kazuya was setting up dinner for Akanishi-sama. “I’ll murder you one day.” The younger muttered as he put a bowl with miso soup on Jin’s right, another bowl with steamed rice on his left and some side dishes in front of him. “I hope you haven’t forgotten your Japanese etiquette.” Kazuya looked at him with narrowing eyes as he placed the last plate with tamagoyaki on it.
Jin grinned at the younger, seeming satisfied with his conclusion. He clapped his hands in front of his chest and with a goofy smile and still looking at Kazuya, he said an “Itadakimasu!” and started to eat like a hungry wolf, devouring all the food in less then ten minutes and then sighing happily, stretching a little on the chair. “Gochisousama.” he thanked for the food as he made a solemn bow to Kazuya - more mocking than grateful, but still with a hint of joke as the smile tugging at his lips seemed to say.
“I’ll definitely kill you.” Kazuya whacked Jin over the head and began to gather all the dishes and put them in the washing machine. “Are you going dressed like that?” he then asked, surveying the other with a critical eye.
“And what’s the problem with my clothes?” Jin cocked an eyebrow, looking at his baggy jeans, loose T-shirt and the leather jacket that was hanging on another chair.
Kazuya said nothing but simply shrugged. After he scrutinized Jin once more, he smiled. “Nothing’s wrong. Just checking.” He replied at last and gathered his belongings, ready to set off. “Time to go, fat ass.” He said with an evil smirk and quickly took ahead of Jin.
“Hey!” Jin exclaimed offended and he hurried to follow Kazuya, taking his jacket and dashing out the kitchen and then out of his apartment. “I’m not fat!” Jin stomped his feet on the ground and Kazuya laughed, being the only thing that could be heard on the empty and quiet building.
*
It was the premiere of Nishikido Ryo’s movie and Kazuya was more than excited to see it and he was burning with impatience as he was waiting for Jin and his friends inside the cinema. He had been granted permission as soon as he said his name and Kazuya could only think that it was because Ryo had mentioned him as a guest and somehow this made him extremely happy. Yuuya was there with him too, though the younger seemed a little bored and not really interested. Well, Kazuya couldn’t blame him as he was the one that had mostly insisted on having his brother at the premiere, so he was trying to cheer up his little brother.
“You’ll like it, I’m sure of it.” He said and ruffled his brother’s hair. “So don’t make that face, okay?” Kazuya smiled and threw a hand over his brother’s shoulder.
“I’m not making any face, Kazu.” Yuuya replied and glanced at his so-happy looking brother. “It’s just… I’m not in the mood for any movie.” He shrugged and looked a bit sad.
Kazuya sighed and grabbed his brother’s arm reassuringly. “If you’re worrying about school taxes, don’t worry, I’ll take care of it. I promised already, so trust me on this, okay?” he looked into Yuuya’s eyes so earnestly that the other could do nothing but to nod and to believe in his brother. Though his brother had never done anything to make him feel otherwise.
“So… who are we waiting?” Yuuya asked, curiosity in his eyes.
“Ah, some friends of mine.” Kazuya shrugged, though his brother couldn’t miss the stars in the assistant’s eyes.
“Spill it. Who are they?” Yuuya insisted and he could see that Kazuya was dying to tell him the identities of his friends. And when he did, the little brother was thunder struck. “Are you fucking kidding me?!” he almost shouted, drawing the attention of the passer-bys. “When the hell did you befriended such personalities?” Yuuya laughed, amazed at his brother’s connections.
“Come on, it’s not that big of a deal.” Kazuya said, though as Yuuya knew so well, it was indeed a big deal. If not, Kazuya wouldn’t be like there were needles in his ass and he wouldn’t be acting like a girl on a date. “Jin’s the only one that’s pestering me more than the other two.” He added as an afterthought.
“But Nishikido Ryo’s the reason why you’re all jumpy and happy, right?” Yuuya asked with a teasing smile.
“Shut up.” His brother mumbled and hid his blushing face. Well, indeed that was the reason, but only because he was to meet again one of the most famous directors who also happened to be his icon in life. Kazuya couldn’t imagine himself other way than being nervous and happy, just like his brother had described him. “Oh…” his eyes flickered as he looked at the open doors and heard the sudden screams from outside. Kazuya knew perfectly well what that meant.
Cameras started to flash everywhere, every one of them trying to take a better picture of one of the three men that had just stepped out of the limousine. Jin appeared first and as he smiled at his fans, screams of ‘I love you’ started to shout from everywhere, creating a bigger ruckus than when the main actors had arrived earlier. Yamashita was the second and flashed a brilliant smile at the people surrounding them, making the women gasp in amazement at his handsomeness and elegance that could be seen in his every move. Ryo had been the last to leave the car and when he finally appeared, applauses exploded from everywhere, the press tried to get even closer and to snatch a short interview with the famous star that had made this movie possible. They were all excited to be able to see the greatest producer of their times and to be so close to him, everything else fading in comparison.
They needed ten minutes to finally escape the others and after a million of pictures and zooming on their faces and questions about their secret friendship - because this was the first time Jin was seen in public with them and being noticed for that matter - the three young men finally found themselves inside the cinema, sighing in relief. Not for long though, as other people came to congratulate them and to share their gratitude for creating such a wonderful movie.
What an assholes, Jin had thought, they haven’t even seen the movie yet and claim that it’s a masterpiece. Of course, he had no doubt that it will be so - as every work of Ryo’s - but Jin was the kind of person who preferred to be congratulated for his present work, not for the assumption that the new movie will definitely be as good as the others. It put too much pressure on his shoulders and even if he enjoyed it sometimes, it was kind of hard to do a good job in such conditions.
“Excuse us.” Ryo flashed a smile and then cursed under his breath when they were far enough from anyone who could be interested in their conversation and not only in their presence, making his friends laugh. Typically Ryo to enjoy the attention and hate it in the same time. “Let’s go.” He added, looking for their seats, but Jin had already started to walk towards a certain place, having seen Kazuya and his brother from the minute they came in and not removing his gaze for one second, afraid of losing them from his sight.
“Glad to see you could come.” Jin was the first to get to them, smiling with a goofy face and looking at Kazuya while glancing at his brother, silently trying to discover the differences between them because… they were too alike!
“Oh, Kame-chan!” Yamapi chirped next to Jin as he stopped on the right of Jin’s.
“Hello.” Ryo took his place on Jin’s left side, bowing his head a little at Kazuya and his brother.
Kazuya looked on turn at each one of them, dazzling as ever. He smiled to Jin and Yamapi but when it came to Ryo he gulped twice, feeling that his jaw was fixed and all he could do was to smile foolishly. Then Yuuya interfered, saving his brother’s ass who seemed to have become for the first time in his life a statue.
“Hello. I’m sorry for my brother’s momentary lack of etiquette, but I’m his brother, Kamenashi Yuuya. Nice to meet you all.” He bowed and smiled a bit shy until his eyes rested on Nishikido Ryo, the one he had heard so much from his brother himself. “Kazuya is very excited about your movie, he’ll be sure to tell you when he’ll regain consciousness again.” Yuuya joked, getting pinched by his brother though no one saw this.
“Shut up, you brat.” Kazuya muttered and looked embarrassed at Jin, Ryo and Yamapi. “Nice to see you three again.” He said with a happy smile.
Jin narrowed his eyes at Kazuya’s brother, not liking at all what he was hearing. Of course, he knew that Kazuya was a big fan of Ryo’s and he had seen a lot of people acting like the younger - even if it was because of him - but he still felt kind of annoyed because of it and he had no idea why. He opened his mouth to protest and say something, but Ryo beat him to it.
“I’m grateful to hear that.” he replied, bowing again and smiling with all of his teeth. “It’s always good to hear an honest opinion, especially if it’s from one of my fans, if I understood correctly?” he then added a little bit unsure, looking into Kazuya’s eyes for confirmation.
“Yes, one of your biggest fans.” Yuuya replied before Kazuya could, wearing a huge smile exactly as Ryo’s. “He even has…” he continued to say but Kazuya clasped his hand over Yuuya’s mouth stopping the words from coming out.
“Why don’t we go to our seats?” Kazuya smiled at Ryo while glaring at his brother who looked as innocently as ever. Like the little brat didn’t intend to tell everyone about the big poster he had on the wall of his bedroom from Ryo’s last movie.
“Yup, we don’t want to miss the premiere!” Pi chuckled as he squeezed himself between Kazuya and his brother, taking each one of them by their arms and starting to walk with them towards their special seats on the first floor. Ryo rolled his eyes, irritated as ever by everything but went after them without saying anything more. Jin was the only one left standing there, glancing at his right, at his left, but having no one to notice him. He sighed as he finally moved himself, following the others and finding them already seated.
Of course that Kazuya had to be seated next to Ryo, while Yuuya and Yamapi were seating next to each other already engaged into a heated discussion as Yuuya’s choice of college was Financial Affairs. Jin slumped on the only free chair on the back row, behind Kazuya and Ryo, and crossed his arms, already starting to feel annoyed about this choice of seating. And why the hell didn’t he move faster so that he could grab a seat next to Kazuya?! Oh, wait. Because he had been too jealous on his friend.
Jin snorted as he continued to throw daggers into the back of Ryo’s head who was now talking to Kazuya about the movie. He rolled his eyes when the assistant answered to his questions, seeming excited about every word and looking like he’d wipe Ryo’s saliva from his mouth it that was necessary. Oh, God, he shouldn’t have imagined that, Jin thought as he closed his eyes with a disgusted expression. They were both guys, for cryin’ out loud!!
But Kazuya had long forgotten about Jin or who was Akanishi Jin. Being with Nishikido Ryo and talking with him about movies, directing and everything felt like a dream. No, it surely was, and he never wanted to wake up from it. But soon the movie started and Kazuya focused on watching it thoroughly. Each time there was a touching scene, Kazuya would bite on his lower lip and clasp his hands together, although he apparently seemed relaxed. And if there was an action scene, he would be tensed all of a sudden, his eyes alert and not losing any of the moves. Then at the end of it, Kazuya would smirk pleased of what he had seen and totally feeling the characters from the movie. After all, that was the main feature he loved about Nishikido Ryo’s movies - he could relate to each of its characters, easy to understand but in the same time so complicated; just like life itself.
Jin totally shared Kazuya’s opinion, especially as he hadn’t seen even one second from the movie, too concentrated to look at Kazuya and observe his reactions. He seemed kind of cute, Jin mused, as Kazuya seemed to be impressed by every touching scene. He couldn’t ignore the look of satisfaction from Ryo’s face too and he wanted to smile at the success of his friend until he realized that Ryo was also glancing at Kazuya with expectant eyes and watching the younger’s every move. He snorted when he realized that Ryo is impressed by Kazuya’s reaction and his deep admiration for the young director and rolled his eyes, thinking what the hell did Ryo have and Jin didn’t?!
Jin was almost furious at the end of the movie, but being the good actor that he was, he smiled and congratulated Ryo for his creation. His friend seemed to buy his lie, too excited about the huge round of applause that had started for him and the enchanting of his name as the press started once more to take pictures of him. Pi was the only one to notice that something is wrong, but he kept his mouth shut even if he sent Jin a warning glare which Jin truthfully ignored.
“Congratulations, Ryo-chan~” Jin sing-songed on a happy voice, embracing his friend and keeping him there for a few seconds, taking all of his air until Ryo managed to free himself.
“Thanks, Bakanishi.” The director replied with a shy smile this time, not the same confident and dazzling smile that he showed to the cameras. “I really appreciate you being here.” He added and immediately Jin felt like a huge jerk for not paying attention to the movie, ducking his head in what Ryo seemed to interpret as shyness because he quickly added: “But don’t let it get to your head because I’ll kick your fat ass.”
Jin sulked again.
“It was even better than the last movie, Ryo.” Yamapi came forward to also hug Ryo at which the other responded with a quick snort, but still thanked him. Pi just smiled back, as a sign that he understood more than Ryo said. After all, Ryo was the most shy of the three of them and the only one who had problems with expressing his feelings.
“What did you think?” it was now Ryo’s turn to ask as he looked at Kazuya and his brother.
If the stars in Kazuya’s eyes could have explained everything he felt, then he wouldn’t have opened his mouth to say anything. “Impressive as always.” Kazuya said, wearing an expression of outmost bliss. “You have managed to create another movie that will reach to your auditory and I’m definitely sure everyone will be touched by it.” He continued, smiling more brightly than ever. “It has definitely been an honor for me to see this movie with you beside me.” Kazuya added, a faint blush coloring his cheeks as he said this. He was bad with compliments but he really wanted to make Ryo see that his movies were a great thing and that Kazuya loved and appreciated them greatly.
“An excellent movie, Mr. Nishikido.” Yuuya interfered, amused by his brother’s fan attitude as it was a rare sight. “Being the skeptic I usually am, I must say that it was one of the best, if not the best movie out there.” He added and stretched his hand towards Ryo while saying his ‘Congratulations.’
And Jin snorted again. “Well then, I’m glad to see you have no problem with compliments this time.” He said with a large grin, looking at Kazuya, even if his eyes seemed blameful.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Ryo finally got mad and stepped in front of Kazuya who Jin was now staring at, but with a nervous gaze. The assistant had the exact words to snap back at Jin but seeing Ryo stepping out for him stopped him and made him feel all warm inside and couldn’t suppress the smile on his lips.
“Nothing, sorry.” The actor finally said, lowering his head in shame. “I’m just a little tired and I’m still caught up in the story of the movie.” He smiled sheepishly, hoping that his friends will believe him, as it wasn’t such an incredible thing if it came from Jin.
And it seemed that it did the trick because Ryo rolled his eyes and Yamapi chuckled, making fun of his friend. “Come on, Bakanishi, something to drink will make you more cheerful.” Pi laughed as he threw his arm around Jin’s shoulders, the singer responding with a small smile.
“And you can’t wait to get to that part.” Jin sighed, but it was clear that he wasn’t annoyed at all by his friend’s behavior.
“And so do you.” Ryo added as he passed the four men and exited the box seat, a smile curling up his lips as no one was there to see it. Yamapi was quick to follow him, winking at Jin as he left the singer alone with the two brothers.
“Are you coming too?” Jin asked, a little unsure and afraid that Kazuya will refuse now because of his earlier behavior, not meeting his eyes but just glancing at him.
But Kazuya didn’t have time to answer because his brother interfered. “Where are you going?” he looked inquiringly at Kazuya, though he glanced at Jin too. The relationship between these two seemed funny, Yuuya mused and thought of having his share of fun too.
“Um, my apartment.” Jin replied, now looking at Yuuya with a somehow scrutinizing gaze. Hadn’t Kazuya already talked with him about it? Or was he planning on not coming at all? Well then… “There’s a celebration party at my house and I invited Kazuya too. Of course, you’re welcomed to join us as well.” Jin continued with a wide smile, completely ignoring Kazuya and concentrating only on his brother. If the older brother didn’t want to… then maybe the younger was a little more willing to do it. “It would be my pleasure to have you as my guests, especially since I’ve been… a little grumpy this night.” He chuckled softly, with a guilty and amused expression in the same time.
Indeed, he had been a little pissed off by Kazuya’s behavior regarding Ryo and he had been truly annoyed seeing his assistant getting so high-up because of his friend and throwing compliments at him and praising Ryo like the God that he wasn’t and making that girly face at him. Jin had been watching him all the time and he couldn’t contain his fury when he thought that the only thing Kazuya had said when he first heard Jin singing had been ‘oh, you can sing’. He hadn’t forgotten that tiny little detail and Jin was planning to get revenge on it.
And it started with his apartment.
A party, Yuuya mused and looked at his brother who had that expression which said ‘no, can’t do.’ And as he rarely disobeyed his brother, he decided that there would be no harm, especially since Kazuya hasn’t been to a party in years. He knew that his brother worked hard for the two of them and although Yuuya was sometimes selfish and ungrateful, he couldn’t not care for Kazuya and he really wanted his brother to enjoy life a little more. After all, work wasn’t everything.
“Ohh, that sounds so great!” he exclaimed with starry eyes, ignoring the glares Kazuya was sending him. “I’d love to join if I’m not intruding.” He smiled shyly and politely.
But Kazuya had other plans and he had to voice them out. “I’m sorry, Yuuya, but I have already talked with Jin about this and I said we can’t go.” He looked sternly at his brother who pouted a little.
“But, Kazuuu… you haven’t been to a party in years.” Yuuya complained and quickly continued when his brother wanted to contradict him. “A real party, not where you were an assistant and had to keep away from the fun. One with booze and great company.” He smiled at Kazuya who looked a bit surprised at his brother’s words.
“Besides,” Jin interfered, “you said that you’d think about it and that you’ll let me know. And I really hoped that you’ll be there to…” he stopped and he couldn’t stop the smirk from appearing on his lips, “to know each other better.” He finished with a smile which clearly wasn’t announcing anything good, but it was light enough to not be seen as dangerous or harmful. Too much.
“What do you have to lose?” Jin asked, cocking an eyebrow at the younger and looking at him with eyes that said the obvious truth - Jin isn’t going to back down from it and if Kazuya still refused… let’s just say he had his ways.
“That’s right, Kazu!” Yuuya sided with Jin, wearing a twin smile like the actor’s, the difference being that Yuuya was still innocent in thoughts. “After all, tomorrow is your day off and you can afford to spend a night partying.” His brother pleaded with puppy eyes, making Kazuya wanting to hit him for being such a pain in the ass. “And I really want to go~” Yuuya whined some more, seeing as Kazuya was slowly submitting to them.
“Jin, you’re dead.” Kazuya glared at the actor, then he turned to his brother. “And you’re grounded.” He said, though his words had no effect on Yuuya who began to smile wider than ever.
“Thank you, you’re the best!” the younger brother hugged Kazuya whose expression softened a little.
“Yay!” Jin joined the hug with a happy expression, giving Kazuya the opportunity to pinch him, no matter the place. The actor yelped and detached himself from the two brothers, looking at the older one with accusing eyes. And then he smiled, almost devilishly, starting to think at other ways to make Kazuya pay for this… attention. “Let’s go, Ryo and Pi are probably waiting for us.” He said in the end, making way for the other two to pass before him.
*
On their way to Jin’s apartment, Kazuya couldn’t help but smile, seeing the enthusiasm his little brother showed as they were in a limo. He squealed, he touched, he caressed and he grinned with such childish antics that Kazuya felt the love and warmth that he had for his brother grow bigger. Of course, the others were also amused by Yuuya’s behavior and he tried to excuse him, but no use seeing that the little brother was moving from one place to another, just to double-check what he already saw and being joined by Jin and Pi somewhere at the middle.
When they finally arrived at Jin’s place, Kazuya had to close Yuuya’s mouth which dropped seeing the tall building and the area they had just pulled in. Surely, they weren’t living in the best neighborhood and Kazuya could relate with Yuuya’s amazement, but he had hoped that his brother would show some restraint. But fortunately for him, the others didn’t notice or if they did, they paid no attention or whatsoever. So he pushed his brother forward, following the other three men. They quickly arrived to Jin’s apartment and wanted to get in, but the actor suddenly stopped them, a weird expression on his face.
“The door is unlocked.” Jin said, a little surprised, trying to remember if he had left it like this in the morning or if… someone broke in?! “I locked it this morning, right?” he then asked Kazuya, turning to look at him.
Kazuya looked back, shock in his eyes. “I-I think so…” he answered, unsure of the morning’s memories. He moved forward next to Jin and put his hand over the doorknob. “Anyway, let’s check inside, okay? We’re lots of us, so…” Kazuya gulped and looked at the others with a serious expression. “Yuuya, stay put, okay?” he glued his eyes to his little brother, warning clear in them. He won’t risk his brother’s life, not after his parents’ death.
Jin gulped once and looked at Kazuya with big, wide eyes, almost like he was trying to gain some confidence from him, while Ryo and Pi both rolled their eyes in exasperation. Ryo, being the one with the least patience, pushed through Jin and Kazuya and entered the apartment first, checking his surroundings. “Who’s the bitch that came?!” he yelled, knowing that it must be one of Jin’s friends who also had a key to his apartment - it happened very often for someone to steal his keys, make a double and use it for parties while Jin had been away.
He never noticed how Jin stiffened when Yamapi showed him the short heels that were standing in the genkan. But Kazuya did and gritted his teeth, bit his tongue to not yell at Jin for his stupid ideas and his womanizer self. He looked for Yuuya who seemed worried, making him curse under his breath. He smiled at the boy and signaled him that everything was okay and he should follow him.
“The thief is a she.” He said to Yuuya who looked surprised then his face relaxed into a big and excited smile. The assistant felt relieved seeing this, the least thing he wanted to see on his brother face was worry and… fear. Kazuya turned to Jin and hit him in his shin, unnoticed by everyone.
But for the first time, Jin was almost like he didn’t feel Kazuya’s kick, too worried and concentrated on every move that he noticed in the apartment. He squealed though when the door from the kitchen opened and it took only a few seconds for a woman in her early forties to appear in its frame, looking with a scolding face at Jin and stopping in front of the boys, her hands on her waist, as she looked at the five of them with piercing eyes. “Don’t you have anything to say?” she asked Jin, clearly mad about something and demanding explanations.
Jin’s only answer was to duck and hide behind Yamapi while Ryo remained frozen on the spot, still looking at her but with a remorseful gaze now. “I didn’t do anything!” Jin yelped, trying to hide his whole body and letting the woman see only his eyes which were now staring at her with fear and shame.
“Of course you didn’t do anything.” she clicked her tongue. “You just came from America after you’ve been away for five years and forgot to visit home, is that it?” she asked, raising her tone a little bit and taking one step closer.
Jin hid completely behind Yamapi. And Ryo finally snapped out his daze, approaching the woman and making a short and polite bow in front of her. “Nice to see you again, Akanishi-san.” He said and Yamapi followed his example and copied his words, leaving Jin unprotected. And, of course, he ducked this time behind Kazuya.
“Your mother?” Kazuya mouthed to Jin as he turned to watch him hiding like a coward behind him. Although he didn’t utter it out loud, Kazuya’s eyes were clearly saying ‘jerk’. Then he turned to Jin’s mother and bowed in front of her, making the proper introductions. “Nice to meet you, Akanishi-san. I am Kamenashi Kazuya, your son’s assistant. And this person here is my brother, Kamenashi Yuuya.” He pointed to his brother who quickly bowed, looking a bit scared. He had never had a mother so he didn’t know how to behave in the presence of one, especially a furious one. “And I have to apologize for Akanishi-san not being able to visit home.” Kazuya continued, looking regretful at her. “We have detained him for work several times and it’s our fault for not being able to see his dear parents, although he had mentioned missing you.” He added, hoping that his words won’t add to the fuel and that his mother would understand.
The woman looked at Kazuya, observing him from head to toes, like she wanted to know him completely from one look. She then turned to Yuuya and smiled kindly at him when their eyes met, feeling his fear and uncertainty. “Akanishi Misaki.” She chirped with a lovely smile directed at the two of them, while her eyes narrowed again when they landed on her son.
Jin rolled his eyes from behind Kazuya. He should have known that his mom would like Kazuya immediately, exactly as he did when he first saw his assistant. He just hoped that his mother will give up only at this because if she wanted to dot on him like she had the habit to… this would make Jin’s life a living hell. A great hell - because he would have home-cooked meal everyday and he won’t need to worry about useless things - but still a hell.
“Mom, what are you doing here?” Jin finally opened his mouth to say something but it clearly wasn’t the smartest thing to say if you looked at Misaki’s eyes. They seemed dangerous for a moment but that glint disappeared suddenly and left behind it only teary eyes.
“My son doesn’t love me.” She quietly sobbed. Jin stiffened again while Ryo and Pi became alarmed. “I can’t even visit my own son now.” She continued and turned her back on them, heading to the living room.
“Mooooom!” Jin yelled after her, coming out from Kazuya’s back to follow her with a sigh. It was the same damn thing ever… “You know that’s not true, you know how much I love you.” He smiled like a puppy at her, blinking his eyes and trying to look cute as he kneeled in front of her after she sat down on the couch, her hand covering half of her face and seeming in deeply pain.
“My oldest son is ungrateful.” She continued to whine, completely ignoring Jin. “What did I do to deserve such a thing?” she asked no one in particular and the other four had to refrain not to laugh at the free show that Jin and his mother were giving.
“Okay.” Jin sighed and leaned his head down, prompting his chin on her knee, now with a defeated expression. “I promise to come home and stay a few days, happy now?”
“Delighted.” Misaki answered, finally looking properly at Jin and smiling at her son. “I missed you, you fool.” She then added with real tears in her eyes as she hugged Jin to her chest, wanting to crush him in her arms and to never let go. Five years had passed and even if they had talked almost daily at the phone and had kept sending messages to each other, it wasn’t the same. Jin would find himself with mails from his parents only with some pictures attached to them that would make him roll his eyes nevertheless and he would also send back videos with him every time he did something worth mentioning, but the distance still could be felt and it had been unbearable, especially because their family was used to be extremely close.
“I know.” Came Jin’s whisper, followed by an “I missed you too.”
He had really missed his mom and he had especially missed her laugh and the way her eyes would spark every time an idea would pop in her mind that she knew it wouldn’t be easily accepted by the others. His mother was really crazy in some aspects, but then again, so was Jin and he was grateful and happy that he had inherited this trait from her.
This way, when they were together, no one could stop them.
“Really touching, isn’t it?” Ryo asked no one in particular, wanting to look unimpressed but clearly not succeeding.
Kazuya nodded his head, clearly oblivious to Ryo’s ironic words, and searched for his brother’s hand, knowing exactly what Yuuya might feel seeing such a scene. For the two of them who grew up without a mother’s love, this kind of scene was like a dream. And no matter how touching it was, Kazuya didn’t want Yuuya to watch anymore, the boy was hurting, considering the strength with which he held his older brother’s hand. “We’ll go to the kitchen for a little bit…” he whispered to Ryo, looking at him apologetic.
Ryo looked back at Kazuya with a surprised and inquiring gaze, but he didn’t have time to say anything because Misaki had already seen the movement with her sharp mother eyes and released Jin from her bear hug, getting up and coming closer to the others, stopping the two brothers from leaving. She looked at each one of them and finally stopped in front of Yamapi, ruffling his hair. “You’ve grown so much, Pisuke.” She said with a loving voice, but that still didn’t stop Jin and Ryo from laughing because of the nickname.
“I’m sorry for not contacting you more often, Akanishi-san.” Pi replied with a slightly quiet voice and smiled a little shy.
“You should be.” She scolded with a caring tone and then enveloped him into a hug, just like her son. “I heard your last movie had been a success.” she continued, moving on to Ryo at which the young director smiled, feeling and looking more flattered by her words than any until now.
“Thank you very much.” He answered politely, even if he also couldn’t stop the smile from curling up his lips. None of the three could because Misaki had been the one who had encouraged them towards their dreams, had always told them to not give up, no matter what will happen in the end. They used to come to Jin’s home and find only her, but she would always welcome them with a happy smile and a warm meal - sometimes leaving nothing for Jin too.
And they definitely couldn’t forget her mails as she managed to capture another embarrassing picture of Jin and quickly send it to all of his friends.
“Kamenashi-kun was it?” she then moved forward and looked at Kazuya with the same loving expression, the warmth and gentleness sparkling in her beautiful eyes.
Kazuya blinked in surprise and quickly nodded. “Yes.” He said, wondering what she will tell him, seeing that she was so close to the others two and she barely knew him. Also he side-glanced at his brother who looked expectant and still held his hand as he used to do when he was five.
“Did my Jin make you any problems?” Misaki asked with a serene expression, ignoring Jin’s yelps of indignation and taking Kazuya’s free hand into her own. “And don’t be a good boy and lie to me.” She quickly added, having a slight idea about what Kazuya’s answer might be if he wants to remain professional.
Kazuya laughed a little. “Other than his usual troublesome self, he hasn’t caused any problems, to me or to others.” He replied, wondering if it was alright to offer such an evasive and daring answer. “You have a wonderful son, a great actor and an incredible singer. Troubles offered by him are little in comparison with what he can do.” Kazuya continued, throwing a glance at Jin. Probably it was for the first time, but in his eyes there was warmth and admiration.
And it seemed to do the trick as Jin stopped in his track - he had been marching towards the two of them to tell them to shut up and stop discussing about him when he was there too - and looked a little uncertain at Kazuya. But that didn’t last long, as nothing seemed to last with Jin, and when his eyes settled on Kazuya for the second time, they were different and… grateful.
Misaki also smiled and caught Kazuya into a hug, even if it was looser than with the others. “Thank you.” She whispered at his ear and then detached herself from him, stopping next in front of the youngest of them. “Yuu-chan?” She called his name, a little unsure if she can call him that way, and raised her hand to touch the boy’s cheek. “What a sweet boy you are.” She continued, caressing Yuuya’s cheek with kind brushes and watching him with warm eyes.
Yuuya nodded, gulping a little, unsure of how he should react. But Kazuya has taught him manners and he smiled to Misaki. “Thank you.” He told her, his head bowing a little.
“And very polite too.” She chuckled with a sweet tone as he raised her hands one more time to Yuuya’s shoulders, going up and down on his arms. “Not like my rude son.” she clicked her tongue again, but Jin kept quiet this time. “Can I hug you too?” Misaki then asked, still a little uncertain because she could feel that something is wrong with this boy even if she didn’t know what exactly. Maybe he was having a fight with his mother and that was why he was looking at her with such a fearful gaze? She hoped that it wasn’t something worse.
Yuuya looked quickly at Kazuya and the other could see the panic in his eyes, but against his will he nodded his head to him, all this time keeping his smile on his lips. Yuuya turned to look back at Misaki and gave a slight nod, almost imperceptible. “It’s okay…” he mumbled, feeling mixed emotions as he was both curious and sad. Curious about how the hug of a mother would feel and sad about how the person wasn’t his mother.
Misaki’s smile widened as she took the boy in her arms, hugging him at her chest exactly how she had done with Jin and patting his head with gentle hands and loving caresses. She detached herself a little from Yuuya and kissed him on his forehead, only then stepping back to look at all five of them. And she smiled again.
Okay, now this was fucking awkward, Kazuya mused and he was being as polite as he could be. But he still smiled and was happy to see that Yuuya was doing the same even if he wore an expression of utmost shock but happiness. Then he looked at Jin and asked him with his eyes ‘what now’. Because he clearly didn’t know what to do, especially when it involved Misaki, Jin’s mother.
Jin looked the same though and his expression clearly said that he wanted to get rid of her until the guys came, so he cleared his throat to draw her attention and when Misaki finally looked at him, Jin opened his mouth to politely tell her off only that the doorbell rang. One look at her son and the woman understood.
“I’ll come back tomorrow.” She said as she flashed another smile at them and exited the room, followed by Jin to greet his friends. In no time, he came back with another five guys and two girls, one of them raising the bottles of drinks in his hand and shouting. “Let the party begin!”
So it began.
