Home
Home.
The single word that makes sense to every one of us.
Home is the place where your heart is. Home is the place where your mind first flies to when loneliness strikes in. Home is the place where you’re going to run to when the world is too scary and too demanding.
But what will you do when the place you call home disappears?
What will you do when you find that your home has turned into something cold and unwelcoming, something that does not protect you anymore, something that does not understand you anymore?
You can only keep on going on.
Because if you stop even one single second, then your heart will break into thousands of shards and you won’t be able to pick each and every one of it. And you’ll feel lost, you’ll feel alone and it will hurt because nothing will make you whole again. You can never give up on finding the home you have built for yourself, you can never give up even if the one you ran to is now ruined and it seems like it will never welcome you again.
You need to realize that your home is within you, that your home is not the persons surrounding you, but you because you pull in the people, you create a home with them. Without you, there wouldn’t be a home, there would be just them.
The sound of a door opening in the background pulls Kazuya out from his reverie and the man looks towards the dimly lit hallway, a small smile appearing on his lips. The silhouette he knows by heart now makes its way towards the arcade separating the living room from the hallway and Kazuya stretches slightly, leaving his notebook and pen rest on the couch.
As soon as his eyes locks with the ones he has come to love so much, his smile widens and he seems like a child again. He watches the other man getting in closer and he closes his eyes as warm lips touch his forehead and a gentle hand ruffles his hair.
“Back into writing?” He asks and Kazuya chuckles embarrassed. “You only do that when you miss me. Did you miss me, Kazuya?” He inquires and the younger man’s cheeks redden a bit.
“You know I do.” He replies honestly, holding the other man’s stare, showing only honesty and truth. “After all, I only write when you’re gone.” He adds in cheekily, making the older man laugh. They lock eyes again and keep staring at each other in silence, no need for words as they understand each other too well to need things such as petty words.
Then, the exhaustion kicks in and Kazuya finds himself with the other man sitting on the floor, his head and hands resting on his legs. The brief concern slowly melts into a warm smile, his fingers threading through the other one’s soft hair.
“Tired, Jin?” He asks and he receives a hum as an answer. “Then sleep for a while. I’ll write.” He adds and he feels Jin shifting a bit until he has his hands around Kazuya’s waist and gently pulling him towards the edge of the couch, obviously wanting him to join him on the floor. With a soft chuckle, Kazuya concedes with the other one’s silent request, letting himself fall on the floor and have Jin settle in his arms like a baby seeking for warmth and comfort.
“You don’t need to write.” Jin’s voice comes out low and sleepy. “I’m back.”
Kazuya smiles happily. “Welcome back.”
Yet in the morning, there was another line written in Kazuya’s notebook -
In your arms, I feel home again.
