PART TWO Kazuya had been waiting anxiously for the day in which he could find out more about Jin’s past. He had hurried to tell Shige the good news as soon as he had spotted his guard, but the other had told him to wait for a while because Jin will definitely remain suspicious for the next days, maybe even weeks. They had to wait a little more and Kazuya had agreed quickly to this, not needing further explanations. After all, he thought it was a little bit weird that Jin had suddenly decided to give in to his request after pretending not to hear anything about this subject for so long. It was a little strange, but Kazuya accepted it, knowing that it was his only chance to know what was the connection between Jin and Hayato. He had a slight guess that Jin would never tell him this part about this past.
The days had continued to pass and the only thing Kazuya had been allowed to do was to sit in Jin’s office and to organize his papers or meetings, rarely being allowed to go with him to meet other people. It was a step forward though that Jin didn’t even need to be asked to do this and invited Kazuya on his own to go with him. It made the younger happy and it let him believe that he might have a chance to get even closer to the real Jin, not just the one who was in love with him.
Fortunately, nothing dangerous had happened since then and Kazuya had been more than relieved to know this. He had seen Jin coming with a few cuts sometimes, but as long as it wasn’t anything serious, he decided that he could live with it for the time being.
And now, now he was again alone in Jin’s office waiting for him to come back. He had said that he’ll be staying over night because he was going in another town and had, of course, refused to take Kazuya along with him. The younger had said that he’ll stay a little longer in their office to finish his job, but had been surprised when Shige had entered the room with a sneaky smile on his lips.
“What do you say if we break some drawers today?” he asked with a singing voice, playfully turning around a screwdriver on his fingers.
Kazuya looked at Shige and somehow, his lips curled into a smile. “Well, be my guest cause if Jin has another booby trap, I don’t want to be its victim again.” He shrugged and felt how excitement took control over him. But he wasn’t just excited, he also felt a bit fearful. What if in those files, he would find something about Jin that he couldn’t quite accept? What should he do then? Kazuya shook his head to get rid of such thoughts and looked at the door behind Shige. “Is it locked?” he asked with a small voice.
Shige looked at Kazuya for a few seconds before going back to the door and locking it. “I don’t really think that there will be someone to come here though.” He simply said as an explanation, thinking that Jin and his most trustful people were gone with him - smart move of Kazuya to convince him that he needed to be protected all the time and leaving the boy only with him. “And don’t worry about the traps,” he continued as he seated himself on the floor, in front of the drawer, “Hayato had been the one to teach Jin all this stuff and I also learned it from him, so it shouldn’t be that hard.” Shige confessed with a thoughtful voice, looking with attention at the whole desk to see how were the wires connected.
Kazuya nodded and got closer to Shige, peering at what the man was doing. “And what else did Hayato teach you and Jin?” he asked, not bearing the silence that was suddenly between them.
“And why should I tell you?” Shige chuckled a little maliciously as he continued to play with his tools and tried to open the drawer that could contain the answer to all of their questions. “You know the deal.” He then proceeded to remind the older one.
Kazuya pouted as he glared at Shige. “Just trying to make some conversation.” He replied briskly as he turned away from the smug boy. He began to pace through the office, still upset on Shige’s way of dealing with things. It wouldn’t hurt to talk, would it? But soon enough Kazuya found himself once more speaking as he wasn’t one to keep silent too much. “Why do you think Jin killed Hayato?” He asked all of a sudden, stopping from his pace as he looked at Shige.
The younger boy rolled his eyes with an annoyed expression. “You know, if you let me concentrate, I can finish earlier and then you can find out everything about them because I’m sure their whole past is in this drawer.” Shige replied promptly, cursing when his fingers slipped and some wires disconnected themselves. He hoped those weren’t important and weren’t going to cost him his life.
Kazuya pouted once more and he almost whacked Shige over the head if it weren’t for his curiosity and need to still be with the guy on good terms. He continued to sulk as he took a place on the couch, his arms still crossed and the pout still on his lips. He soon began tapping his foot to show his impatience and the need to talk. Just how much would Shige take to open that fucking drawer?!
In the end, it needed half an hour for the click to be heard and the drawer to be finally opened. Shige gently pushed it open, Kazuya already waiting anxiously next to him to see what would they find there. At first, it seemed to be empty but Shige pressed his fingers in a few places and a fake bottom was revealed which covered… lots of papers. “It really is true.” The younger whispered as he took the first one from the stack and looked at it. It was Hayato’s birth certificate. Every detail was the same as Jin’s - as Shige had had the pleasure to accidently stumble upon Jin’s in his research - and even the name of the parents was the same. Another birth certificate slipped from the first one and Shige though it to be Jin’s one, but he was wrong. It was another one of Hayato’s though this one had the name of his parents changed.
Kazuya took the certificates from Shige’s hand and looked at them carefully. Someone had changed the names, but for what reason? “Was Hayato adopted?” he asked Shige as he lifted his eyes from the certificates.
“Yes.” The other replied as he started to search through the drawer and to pull out more documents. “It seems that Hayato’s stepparents had decided to hide the truth from him and had registered him as their son. It’s clearly something illegal to do.” He snorted and rolled his eyes, annoyed that not even his adopted family had been that good for Hayato.
“But why?” Kazuya asked, still staring at the certificate. “After all, there are thousands of children adopted everyday.” He continued with a sigh, not understanding why the parents refused this truth to their adopted son.
“Well,” Shige shrugged, “it’s easier to hide the truth for their whole life. Besides, Hayato had just been born a few weeks prior becoming the Yabuki’s son. It was exactly like he was their son so I think they wanted to keep it that way. And Hayato’s real parents don’t really look like nice guys, if you know what I mean. They wanted to prevent them from asking money.” He explained what he had also heard from Hayato when he had gone home to ask explanations from his father.
“Do you know Hayato’s parents?” Kazuya looked at Shige and there was an incredulous look on his face. So, in the end Hayato had found out the truth, no?
The younger boy just nodded and continued reading, finishing the pile of papers in his hands and setting them down to grab others.
Kazuya looked at the certificates once more. Apparently, his parents, Hayato’s parents and Jin’s parents were from the same brand of parents - scumbags. “Did Jin know them too?” He asked, sneaking another glance to Shige and receiving another nod in response. “You said they look-a-like. So they were brothers after all?” He continued his interrogatory and Shige looked at him briefly before nodding again. “They were truly brothers.” Kazuya whispered as he let the papers down, turning his eyes back on the ones Shige was pulling out from the drawer. But if Hayato had been Jin’s brother, why did he kill him? Why did he do such an atrocious thing? Shige pulled out a file and before he even opened it, Kazuya snatched it away, looking through it. From what he could see as he browsed it, it seemed like a report on… Hayato’s life.
Jin had asked for his brother’s background to be searched, Kazuya concluded as his eyes skimmed through, catching glimpses of Hayato’s story. They had been separated at birth, the twins’ mother deciding that she could make money out of selling one. Hayato had been the one sold while Jin had been the one kept inside their household for other needs. But whilst Hayato had been parted from his brother, he had probably led a better life because in the end he hadn’t ended up as Jin. Between the two brothers, Hayato had been the luckiest one. But his luck ended when he had met Jin - because his own brother had killed him. And why… Kazuya intended to find out.
He let aside the report and he suddenly jolted as he watched Shige taking a gun out from the drawer. “Put it down.” He said with a hissing voice, his eyes never letting the gun out of their sight.
“Why? Are you scared?” Shige laughed and pointed the gun towards Kazuya, directly in his face.
Kazuya froze on his spot and you could notice how the color left his face. “Are you stupid?” he said with a strangled voice. “What if you accidentally trigger it?!” he then asked, the fear clear in his tone.
“Scaredy-cat.” Shige rolled his eyes and put back the gun. “It isn’t loaded, you idiot.” He then muttered, a little upset that he was considered stupid enough to point a loaded gun at Kazuya’s head. After all, guns weren’t his specialty, but he was fairly good with knives though. Those he wouldn’t have a problem to point or even throw at Kazuya. “It was Hayato’s.” the boy added after a short pause in which he studied the item carefully to be sure if it really was what he though. After all, it had been years since he last saw Hayato with it and it seemed that Jin had locked it up in his desk.
Kazuya looked now at the object with more interest than fear. “He cared about Hayato.” He blurted out, a soft expression on his face. He really believed so, otherwise why would Jin keep a gun that he’ll never use? And under key too. In his way, Jin had loved his brother, it was that Jin showed his love differently than other people.
“Somehow, I doubt that Jin even knows how to love.” Shige laughed bitterly. If Jin had really loved his brother and had ended up killing him, then Shige really didn’t want to be Jin’s enemy if this was what he did to his loved ones.
Kazuya bristled immediately. “He knows, it’s just that he shows it differently.” He defended his lover, glaring at Shige. “In the end, it isn’t his fault for how he ended up. He had done his best to survive and this is the outcome.” He continued, defying Shige to say otherwise.
“I didn’t say that it’s his fault.” Shige defended himself, thinking that the bits from Jin’s past that he knew had been enough to make him remain loyal to him. “But excuse me for not wanting to be loved by him and risk to be killed because I wanted to leave him.” He rolled his eyes, though his body trembled a little at what he had found out from the paper he was still holding in his hands.
Kazuya frowned. “What do you mean?” he asked and his eyes fell on the paper. He snatched it quickly and read its content. No, it couldn’t be! But… but all seemed to fit - after all, Jin had threatened him all the time to kill him and his friends if he ever dared to leave him.
Hayato had always known. He had been aware that Jin will kill him and he had been preparing to leave him and to run away with his lover. It seemed that Jin had threatened his brother millions of times of what he will do if things were to get to their worst, but Hayato hadn’t listened and he had still chosen to try his luck, hoping that Jin will understand him in the end.
He hadn’t.
In the letters that Hayato had written on the last day of his life, all was explained, his every fight with Jin and his reasons for leaving him. He had been starting to be afraid of his brother and he had lost all faith in him when Jin had threatened him that he’ll kill Ryu. So he had made a deal with the other one - to stay if Jin was to protect his lover, but he had also been secretly planning to escape in secret and to take Ryu with him, away from Jin and his deadly claws.
Kazuya couldn’t believe all this. Hayato had known that in the end Jin will kill him and he had gotten used to the thought. Just because his lover would be safe… The younger felt his heart clench at their love and at how Hayato had given up everything just to know Ryu safe. His hands that were still holding the paper were slightly trembling as he re-read some parts. Jin had stopped Hayato from leaving with Ryu, selfishly he had destroyed their love by not only separating them, but by also killing one of them - his own brother. Kazuya’s heart wept for those two and even if he was sympathetic with them, he couldn’t help but wonder why would Jin do such a thing? Had he been in love with Hayato? Had he yearned for a familial connection as small as it was? And what had his lover felt when he had taken his brother’s life away?
Kazuya was silently crying for him, for those two lovers and he almost regretted that he had wanted to know such things about Jin. It was clear to him now that Jin wanted more than ever to forget that part of his past and the fact that he had hidden all the evidence of his brother in a well kept drawer was more than speaking for itself. In his sick way, he had loved Hayato and such love had led to his death. Kazuya let the paper aside and rubbed his eyes, wanting to make the tears in them disappear.
“What else is there?” He asked with a hoarse voice as he looked at Shige.
“This.” The other one replied as he handed Kazuya another document and hid a letter at his back pocket. Hayato had also written a letter for Ryu, Shige thought with a gentle smile on his lips. He hadn’t left him hanging like Ryu had believed, but had wanted to give him a closure and make the boy not want to search for him ever. It had been purely luck that Shige had found out about Hayato’s death and had stopped Ryu from asking explanations from Jin. There wouldn’t have been just a victim if that had happened and Shige was proud of himself of succeeding to drive Ryu away in another town with the promise that he’ll find out what had happened eventually.
This letter will explain everything to Ryu, he thought as his eyes landed on the next item from the drawer. Somehow, this didn’t look like something that Hayato’s lover would like.
Kazuya didn’t see Shige’s sneaky movement, but instead he concentrated on the letter that was in front of his eyes. He recognized the writing as being Hayato’s since he had just seen his style. He took a deep breath as his eyes began wandering on the letter, reading what was written in it. Kazuya sighed and realized how Hayato had trapped himself unwillingly. He had asked Jin for help and as if a movie was unfolded in front of his eyes, the younger one could see how Jin had lured Hayato into hiding but without further escape. The foolish boy had let himself be locked away by his brother. And all he had wanted had been to leave all of his problems behind, to leave together with Ryu. But he hadn’t realized that he had just asked the devil’s help, because Jin hadn’t let him leave.
The younger one sighed once more and his thoughts regarding Jin were once more confusing. He understood his lover, but in the same time he didn’t. What will Jin say with respect to all this? What could he say to his defense? Kazuya suddenly didn’t want to know anything more, but he couldn’t stop.
“What’s there?” He asked Shige as he saw the man looking with a twitching expression at something.
Shige glanced at Kazuya, not sure if it was appropriate to give the picture to the boy. He looked in the drawer and pulled out a video cassette on which it was written Jin X Hayato, giving it first to Kazuya. “I think that on that tape is the same thing as on these pictures.” He then explained his gesture, pointing to the other pictures lying on Jin’s drawer and the one in front of Kazuya’s eyes.
The younger one’s face went pale as he watched a picture of his lover and his lover’s brother, both of them standing in a bed, sharing an intimate moment. It hurt him to see this, but it hurt more to slowly realize that Jin loved his brother more than he had suspected. After all, they were both naked and Jin was clearly kissing Hayato, though more like pulling on his lip as his eyes eyed the camera’s objective. They had been not only brothers, but also lovers. Kazuya felt sick all of a sudden and he rose up, not being able to know anything more about Hayato and his sick relationship with Jin.
“Are you satisfied?” Kazuya asked Shige as he looked down on him, the disgust clearly written on his face. “If so, then my part of the deal is done.” He continued and went to the couch where he collapsed, feeling all queasy.
“Well, I suspected this from a long time ago, so…” the younger shrugged as he approached Kazuya. “After all, Jin had always been this touchy-freely only with Hayato and Yamapi and everyone knew what kind of relationship he had with the latter one.” He confessed, stopping in front of the boy.
Kazuya looked up at Shige. “Are you bragging?” He asked with a derisive tone, his eyes clearly accusing him. “It doesn’t matter anyway. This way it only shows how beautifully me and Jin fit together.” He laughed, cussing as he let his head fall into his palms and chuckling from time to time. Really, what was there to surprise him anymore? He had slept with his mother and Jin had slept with his brother - they were the perfect couple!
Shige raised a mocking eyebrow, his expression clearly saying are-you-making-fun-of-me. He opened his mouth to say something in reply, but he didn’t have time because in the next second, a loud bang was heard at the door. Another one. At the third one, the door came flying and Jin stepped victoriously on it, proud that he had managed to break it. He had the keys from the room, but what the hell!!
“Am I interrupting something?” Jin asked with a sweet tone, tilting his head and looking rather curiously at the two men.
Kazuya looked stunned at Jin and honestly didn’t know what to make of this. Wasn’t Jin supposed to be gone with business? How could this all happen? Suddenly a headache hit him, but Kazuya had no time to waste as he knew perfectly how little patience Jin had. “No, you’re not interrupting anything.” He replied as sweetly as the other one. “Actually we just finished breaking your drawer.” He added with a cheery tone and pointed with his finger at the pile of papers on the desk. Well, the truth was that seeing Jin so soon after finding out he had been fucking his brother - willingly! - kind of made him snap.
“Oh, how nice of you.” Jin applauded them, seeming to be happy for their little decision of breaking into his documents. “But do tell me,” he continued with the same sweet tone and the same fake smile plastered on his lips as he approached the two of them and watched Shige backing away with every step of his, “do you remember our little promise?” he asked, not paying too much attention to Shige but letting him know that he wasn’t going to escape from there.
Kazuya looked at Jin, defying him. “Clearly.” He replied as he sprang to his feet, also clapping his hands like Jin. “What are you going to do to me?” He confronted Jin, posting himself in front of Shige, this way drawing Jin’s attention only on him.
“Babe, I never said that I would do something to you.” Jin mocked the boy, coming even closer so that their lips almost touched. “But I remember that I said something else about your little friend.” He then added, licking Kazuya’s upper lip in a playful manner and looking at him with an amused expression. He wasn’t that mad that Kazuya had found out about his past. After all, he had planned to make them believe he was away only to lock himself into another room and watch everything that had happened between Kazuya and Shige. He had been the one to choose the moment when to barge in when he had decided that they had seen enough. But what bothered him was that Kazuya’s hadn’t kept his promise.
And now someone had to pay, he thought cheerfully.
Kazuya blinked fast as he stepped back from Jin. Now he really didn’t want him to be all touchy with him after what he had learned. “After all you did -” and Kazuya pointed at the papers. “- you don’t even reconsider?! And he has no connection to what I have done!” His voice rose as he brought his fist and slammed it against his chest. “I was the one to initiate everything because you wouldn’t say anything. So don’t make anymore victims because if you do, I’d better have you kill me.” He continued and even if his voice quivered a little, his expression was one of determination. “Just like you did to Hayato.”
Jin’s eyes darkened a bit at the mention of his brother’s death. “Honey, if you wanted to know something about me, you should have asked. After all, from what I remember, I didn’t have any problem answering you about my past the last time you asked or did I?” he said, his voice clearly saying that he was starting to get mad as he once again approached the younger.
“Actually, I remember quite the opposite.” Kazuya retorted, his eyes flaring up. “I remember you being evasive in your answers as I asked about your past.” He continued, keeping his place, not backing away from Jin this time. “And honestly now, would you have told me about Hayato and your relationship with him?” Kazuya asked with an arched eyebrow, expecting Jin to lie.
“The same way you told me about your mother.” Jin shot back, perfectly knowing that Kazuya had never said a thing about his own past and Jin had needed to find out from others all the time or from a hysteric Kazuya.
“Then we’re even, aren’t we?!” Kazuya laughed, though there was no hint of amusement in it. “I didn’t find out from you and you didn’t find out from me. Period, case closed.” He smiled pleased as he turned and looked at Shige. “Leave.” He signaled the boy out.
“Oh, yes, Shige, please leave.” Jin repeated, looking at the boy who seemed frozen on his spot. It was clear for him that Jin hadn’t meant those words and that hell will wait for him if he even tried to escape. But if he stayed, he knew that this will be the final moments of his life. What could he do now after he had been caught? The sanest thing was to run as far away from there, but then again, Jin wasn’t exactly a sane person.
And Shige knew which points would make him even crazier. “I’m not leaving.” He finally seemed to decide, his eyes facing Jin’s and seeing a little spark glittering in them which showed him that Jin was satisfied with his answer.
Kazuya’s annoyance grew bigger. “I want to talk with you alone.” He said through gritted teeth to Jin, his eyes flaring with displeasure. He had to save Shige from Jin’s wrath, at least he had to save one person, goddamnit! If Jin truly loved him, then… he would listen for once to him. He won’t let another person die just because Jin felt like it.
“But it seems that Shige doesn’t want to leave.” Jin whined childishly and then a mischievous smile appeared on his lips as he raised his hands towards Kazuya. “Come with me then?” he asked, tilting his head a little and looking cutely at the boy. Well, he could deal with Shige later after all.
Kazuya pursed his lips before finally agreeing to go with the other one, this way distancing the two men away. “Anywhere, baby.” He mocked and grabbed onto Jin’s hand. Oh, this was crazy, really! They suited each other perfectly - Jin mad as ever and Kazuya going mad too.
The smile on the older one’s face widened as he exited the room together with his lover, pushing the boy in front of him and giving a silent signal to his men who were watching them and already knew what to do in cases like this. He pretended that nothing had happened and that he had done this just so he could catch Kazuya from behind, kissing his neck as they continued to walk. “So how long do you want to talk?” he asked, though the tone of his voice clearly said that he had other intentions.
Kazuya closed his eyes at this sudden action of Jin’s, but he wriggled his way out of his lover’s arms. “I want you to leave Shige alone.” He turned to look at Jin with a serious expression. “It’s the only thing I ask and for once… I’d like you to listen to my plea.” He continued and his eyes were begging Jin not to do anything to Shige, not to hurt another innocent person.
Jin sighed as he took once more Kazuya’s hand into his and pulled him into an empty room, closing the door after them. “Why should I?” he asked, supporting his back on the door, his eyes studying the boy in front of him. “I also asked you something and then you did again something at my back. Why should I listen to you? And as a matter of fact, when did you ever listen to me?!” he demanded to know, the rising tone betraying the fact that he was also starting to get angry even if he wasn’t that upset because Kazuya had found out about his past. It wasn’t a secret, just that… it was better left alone.
“Oh, Jin, please!” Kazuya threw his hands in the air, looking as if he was at his limits. “Do you enjoy killing people?! Do you have to make everything between us a game of give and take?” He continued as he got close to his lover, trying to understand him better. “I’m asking you… don’t kill anymore.” Kazuya begged again, realizing that lately it had turned into a habit to do this with Jin.
“Alright.” Jin accepted maybe too easily. “I won’t kill Shige and I won’t kill others too.” He said with a nonchalant tone. “I can always let them kill me anyhow.” He shrugged a little, looking like he wasn’t bothered by the idea of dying at all.
Kazuya banged with his fist on the door behind Jin. “Fuck, Jin! It’s not what I meant and you know it!” He said through gritted teeth, his face very close to the other one’s. “And Shige won’t kill you, he’d be a fool to do so and you know it as well.” He continued, hoping to knock some sense into Jin, but he had a dreading feeling of not succeeding. “Why do you have to be so damn stubborn and not see that I need you to stop all of this?!”
“Why are you so damn stubborn and can’t see that this is my life, the way I’ve lived until now and the way I’ll continue to live?” Jin shot back, a curious eyebrow arched as he watched the boy intensively.
“Okay, I understand this, though I don’t want to, but I asked you to spare Shige! Not all the people you are having trouble with.” Kazuya tried another approach as Jin seemed fixed on the idea of not giving up at this life. “Jin, try to understand a little… try to see it from my point of view!” He added, gripping the older one’s shoulder to show his despair.
“You seem to have the habit to ask me to spare a lot of people.” Jin pointed out, brushing the hand off his shoulder and passing Kazuya to go deeper in the room. “Things can’t always be as you want them to be.” He added, his back turned on the boy as he lighted a cigarette and took a deep breath from it.
Kazuya closed his eyes, taking deep breaths but not quite managing to calm down. “It’s not that they can’t always be as I want, it’s that you won’t make them be as I want.” He turned and looked at Jin with anger in his brown eyes. “After all, who am I to ask you to spare an innocent man’s life?” He laughed disappointed as he turned again. “I don’t want to see you today.” Kazuya said with a harsh tone as he opened the door and fled through it, ignoring Jin’s calls after him and just as he entered the elevator he saw his lover exiting the room and heading towards him.
But the doors closed and Kazuya gave himself a sigh of relief and disappointment. Jin was stupid, he didn’t understand what killing meant for him, what seeing Jin kill other people meant for him! He was so selfish, so engrossed in his own feelings, that he never stopped to ask if it was right, if it was okay… No, Jin never asked, Jin just took and took, never once wondering if it was alright, if he was alright. Kazuya exited the building and hurried along the street, turning suddenly left, walking and walking, not seeing where because right now Jin was all he could think of.
Then he bumped into someone.
“Watch where you’re going!” the man yelled as he grabbed Kazuya by his arms to hold him tight, a dangerous look dancing in his eyes. He stopped for a moment as their eyes locked and a mean smirk appeared on his lips as he studied the boy he had managed to capture. “Now, look who we have here. Akanishi’s little bitch.” The man spitted the words as his grasp tightened.
Oh, God.
