Ikea, I curse your distance.

Damn Ikea.
Why would they build TWO stores near Chicago, and NONE near me? I still have to make a 14 hour round trip!?!
Road trips are hard enough to plan, let alone when I have a kid and a friend named Dave, and 42 pieces of furniture to put in my car! Graaagr!

I have wanted one of these shelving units forever ( Read more... )

Ikea is the shit. They have such good stuff for way cheap.
Plus, you can feel good shopping there, since they at least pretend to be ethically and environmentally sound, and they donate to charities and stuff.

My mother has a HUGE side-by-side fridge/freezer unit. Even though she lives alone and doesn't have to feed anyone but herself on a daily basis, it's always so full that you can't even open it with stuff falling out onto the floor. Most of what's in it is either mold-covered or expired ( ... )

It's not that they don't sell them here, I just don't want to deal with salesmen, which you kind of have to do on an appliance like this, since the people at the store have to load it into your car and stuff.
You know they're going to be all "Oooooh, but this tiny one doesn't have a built-in ice maker! You need this model that costs $6574358674 more and won't even fit in your kitchen!"
I'm basically going to have to assure them at least 35 times that I am not an idiot, I have thought this through, and I do know what I want.

Do you have any colleges or universities near you? Dorm fridges can vary in size to outrageously small sized to about the size you want. Our local university does an auction two to three times a year, often getting rid of stuff they don't want or need anymore. It may be worth it to ask about something like this, or ask outright if they're going to be clearing out their appliances soon. :)

Our local schools don't supply dorm fridges; students buy their own.
You can, however get some awesome stuff from those students on craigslist and/or from next to dumpsters when school lets out (damn overprivileged college kids don't appreciate a damn thing), but that's not going to be until 3 months after we move. :/

P.S. I'm a total slacker and haven't mailed your stuff out yet, and I think the post office is closed tomorrow. So, while I've got this box here, do you want a black and white striped longish tank top? some random fabrics (plaid, black, black/grey floral)?
