urm... either does not make any sense since the alphabet consists of all 26 letters.

So trick question?

in colloquial Singaporean/Malaysian English there's a tendency to use the word 'alphabet' when in British/American English they would say 'letters'.

Q1 = C? For Q2, I don't know if there can be a 'left from' something.

additionally, you have to state the assumption that the letters are lined up sequentially from left to right.

I guess one would be u dun count H as the "first" and the other u do count H as the "first" so u will have two different results.

but the thing is, which is which? is like a 50/50 gamble as there is no one right answer.

yes, I was the one who gave u the answer "M" .. HAHAHAHHAHA .. sorry I was not paying attention .. lollll

YOu are not the only one who has M as answer. My UK grad friends.. Imperial, Princeton, UMIST and LSE said the answer is "M, M"

If ignoring the backward or forward direction.
Im not too sure abt the Q2,from H, and H will be the first position? thus D is the answer?

A B C D E F G H
5 4 3 2 1

hahahahah .. must be our british training which dun teach us to pay attention .. HAHAHHAAHHAHHAA

I would choose as follows:

5th left OF H: "D"

A B C D E F G H
# # # 5 4 3 2 1

5th left FROM H: "C"

A B C D E F G H
# # 5 4 3 2 1 0

in the first sentence, editing the sentence, to only the last 6 alphabets, ......eft of H, answer is E

in the second sentence, editing to just last 6 alphabets, .....t from H, answer is T

this may be problematic as alphabets aren't the same as letters

It is a linguistic problem!

Left of H means as long as it's on the left side of H and not counting from H at all.
So naturally the first answer is the 5th alphabet E

Left from H means counting 5 positions from H,
so C is the second answer.
