I think my brain went offline for a few moments there! I'm still not sure I should feel after reading this. I felt strange imagining the things going in this fic, like seeing scenes from a high-class surreal art erotic film. But, but, damn. I feel for Rodney in this fic. If anybody sprang this on me unexpectedly, I would've fainted.

You verbalized the sense I had while writing it--high class surreal art erotic film. This fic is pretty much out of character for me, and the real challenge, once I figured out why Sheppard might be into this, was writing all of Rodney's quirks from Rodney's PoV. Glad it worked, if in a surreal way.

Not my kink but, imo, a beautiful exploration of it, and beautifully written. Re: comments above, from what I can see, you accomplished the 'erotic film' feel of it very well, and my own brief research into the subject (about 1/3 through reading it I thought ... hmmm ... I should flesh out my knowledge on this area a wee bit before continuing) jives with this exploration quite nicely.

I think what makes the premise work so well is that we don't know how or why John ended up in something like this, he just is. Selecting Rodney's POV, challenging though it must have been for the reasons you've stated, was likewise brilliant.

High praise and thoughtful commentary, which is praise in itself. I had hoped to write it so that a reader without prior knowledge (like Rodney) would be able to follow.

I think that whenever we explore kink or things that are going to ping as 'weird' for some readers, we have to be extra-careful to build the supporting story structure so the premise itself is believable within the context of the story. That said, truly good stories aren't chock-a-block full of exposition or show our research bleeding through ... again, all part of inviting the reader to share the story as seamlessly as possible with the characters themselves.

I think I ran across the base concept of ponyplay maybe two years ago, but shrugged it off as being uninteresting. Your story helped flesh out why it could be attractive to some players, without being any more shocking to me as a reader than it was to Rodney. (heh ... possibly less so because, unlike Rodney, I could pause and do a quick google to refresh my memory on the basics and read a couple sites for more in-depth background).

I look forward to reading more of your work, whether in this subject or others.

I've pretty much been wanting this fic since I got into this fandom, because John as pony boy/horse would just be like the best thing ever. And this is wonderful; such an awesome look at the kink and at John and Rodney and...the whole thing.

This is really pretty much made of win. I liked that he couldn't figure out how to tell Rodney, so he had to show him--and the title was perfect.

As one of the other readers said, this isn't a particular kink of mine but I don't mind reading about it. Oddly enough? The moment I figured out where John was taking Rodney and why, it just fit so perfectly - John is so very much a pony. Strong-willed but eager to please those he trusts, those who've earned that trust. Beautiful, skittish and wary. Just perfect. And I loved your exploration of Rodney's reaction to finding out the nature of one of John's deeper kinks. He's understandably shocked and uneasy but ultimately, he's willing to go to whatever lengths necessary to give John what he needs.

Well done. I don't suppose you have any intention of continuing this? ;)

I don't think I'll write more. This is the first serious piece of fanfic I've written in about a year. Driving in to work today, I did figure out how Sheppard met Dana Calloway, and how that got started, but I don't think I'll write it, so here's the summary ( ... )

I can absolutely see it unfolding that way - sort of a step by step journey in the right direction, until John finds what does work for him. No neat, pat (and utterly unrealistic) "Oh, I know, I want to be a pony!" Thanks again, for both the fic and sharing the backstory, I think this one is a story I'll definitely be revisiting.
