all forms of discrimination should be punished and i agree with you that if somebody is going to get fired for using racial slurs that people who use homophobic slurs should also get the axe.

but it's completely true that while there is a large number of people who consider the word "nigger" a slur and are against bigotry toward blacks, the number of people who don't consider the word "faggot" a slur at all and couldn't care less about offending gays is EXTREMLY smaller. if you don't believe that just go to any mainstream public place with your friends and loudly shout the word "nigger" and see how many dirty looks or punches you get then go to any mainstream public place and shout the word "FAGGOT!" and you'll see how everybody just goes about their business and couldn't care less.
