You'd think people would be mostly worried about the monsters, but somehow stuff like this always happens.

At the start! We've been paying attention and all, but still don't get it. Who's that crazy Walter man and - and - who killed Marlene?

Walter is involved in a ritual involving the "21 Sacraments" which involves that he kills 21 people in order to bring back his mother, which he believes to be room 302 of the Latimir Apartments. He cannot be killed without the right items, which is why he's still at large.
Marlene was attacked by another murderer, named Sweeney Todd.
