Bonjour, LiveJournal! Je suis arrivé à Montréal! Bumpy flight, and late (the plane was at JFK, but the crew was still in Boston).

Mon français est mauvais, mais mon quebecois? Bof! Il suck, comme une grande chose trés sucky.

When Punch magazine was still a going concern, there was a parody language-lesson column called "Let's Parler Franglais!" My college roommate had a couple of the issues that included it.

The one I remember is "Dans Le Christmas-Tree Store."

I do fine, and most of my French is built on high school Spanish classes.

Considering that I've never studied French at all or had any occasion to absorb it beyond my experience as an American, I'm just amazed at how much of that (especially jhayman's response) I understood.

I'm convinced that I could have been a world-class linguist if I'd just been born a few decades later so I could have had the computer-enhanced vocabulary memory.

You can speak quebecois if you just pronounce French as it's written! (well, sorta.)
