I can understand what you are saying about making a donation as amethod of protesting, but in my opinion the value you provide to Card by going to see the movie is more your contribution to the success of the movie and therefor the likelihood he will get another movie deal. I did like the book. But I am gay, and having learned what he has said about me, I will not contribute in any way to anything that might benefit him until he apologizes. (unless, of course, he is homeless or needs lifesaving help).

OSC has received all payment he will receive for the rights to EG. He has no backend deal involving royalties or anything else. Lionsgate has already said that, due to the controversy of OSC's homophobia, there will be no sequels to EG and thus no franchise.

That's kind of a shame, because the best Ender book is the first sequel, Speaker for the Dead. I'd have liked to see that film, in which a protagonist gets to choose what happens to him rather than having it happen at him.

Are you 100% SURE about that? You don't know how Hollywood works. No one does. With the different roles OSC has in the film he could very well get a share of the take. Also who's to say that another studio won't pick up the IP and make it a franchise?

One of the best and most insightful reviews I've read to date. I read Ender's Game (and it's sequels) and the author of this article points out things that never occurred to me. Every other sentence was an "oh, yeah" to me.

I'm kind of partial to this critique, which clearly articulated the reasons behind a lot of my discomfort with the books.

From the commercials I think Ender knew full well what he was doing. He has that look in his eye. The adults knew he was going to blow up one day so better it do it to THEM as opposed to us.

In the book Ender got a message from the aliens saying that the war was started by a misunderstanding on their part and apologized. Did they do that in the movie?

Only A Little White Boy Can Save Us - Again. Seen it a billion trillion times, in every freakin' medium. I'll skip, thanks.

If it's that good? I can wait till OSC stops hurting my nephew and friends - either by him renouncing his activity, or by his death - before going to see the film (with my bucket of Soylent Green).

Actually, one of the points of the story is that one little white boy *can't* save us.

Okay. So he's not scruffy-looking.

My second paragraph still stands: When OSC stops hurting my nephew and my friends I'll consider checking out the film.

Slight aside - I think Hobbit 2 should use your full title, because nothing they will ever come up with will be half as awesome as "Hobbit 2: Draconic Boogaloo"...
