I hate Christmas, I hate Christmas, I hate Christmas.

The music, the lights, the movies/tv episodes/Christmas specials, the inconsiderate people at the shops, the traffic and most of all the "spirit" of Christmas. The whole lot of it. Every year we do this. Why? What is the whole purpose for doing this? This isn't to celebrate any birth of a God. This is just something to drag people into a ( Read more... )

thrift stores, crafts, and going-out-of-business sales are my best friends around xmas. seriously, on our entire family we spent less than $200 on and got them some surprisingly nifty/nice stuff. granted it took going to four different thrift stores (3 were in another state), an antiques market, and one store that was going out of business to do it, but i think we succeeded and our family never has to know where we got their gifts. seriously, nothin like thrift shops around xmas time for us broke folks - that may be just where you need to hunt.

on a philosophical note: for me xmas is a time for me totake a break from my ever-increasingly-busy schedule to remind my friends and the little family i actually like that i appreciate them. i tell them through out the year, but i try to make it a bit more special round december.

Ha, i've got teens in my family that wish wish big electronic stuff. One big thing is all i can afford each of them. that's it. nothing more.

but the thing is, why does December have to be more special than any other time to tell someone you love how much you love them and how much they mean to you? I think i'm more of a grouch and more hateful in December.

Ain't it the truth...the "spirit of Xmas" has long since disappeared in the cloud of rampant consumerism. Hey, i like getting stuff as much as the next guy, but, damn, it's just insane. I'm also happy not getting stuff, and just having a good time.

Hang in there, the season'll pass.

I don't care about getting stuff either. Buy me stuff whenever you feel like it not just someone tells you to on one particular day. Such rubbish.

agreed.

I've gotten my family to understand and leave me out of official xmas holiday stuff. I no longer have to go see them on that ONE day....to pretend.

I always feel to make an effort all year long, and avoid so much importance on 1 made up day....and then always feeling like a failure.

cheers!!

Okay, first thanks for making me laugh with "computer says no."

I've told my mom last year about how I felt about all this crap and convinced. We let the kids open up the gifts 4 days early. This year will be no different in my opinion. But I have to endure it just to please my mom.

Ah but aren't most of the religious? that's the main reason we have Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ. (well, that's how it started.)
