A/N: Requested by and thus, spot for
elaineleyn. Spot for
jessyang as well! Sungmin in leather. Enough said.
'Congratulations to Cho Kyuhyun for being awarded the top prize in the National Mathematics Competition this year.' The morning announcement blared over the loudspeaker in every class room.
'Who's Cho Kyuhyun?' A student slumped over his desk mumbled to himself.
Kyuhyun raised an eyebrow from the next desk over. 'I am.'
'Who are you?'
He opened his mouth before closing it in resignation. 'Nobody, I'm nobody.' Kyuhyun sighed and went back to doing his work for advanced calculus. If anybody in the entire school was at the bottom rung of the social ladder, it was him. Nobody knew who he was and he couldn't wait until high school was over so he could escape to university where it was filled with other studious people like him. At least he wouldn't be alone then.
Kyuhyun looked up at the sound of a roaring motorcycle. He looked over his shoulder to peer out of the window, hoping to catch a glimpse of the owner. The rider took his helmet off and shook his dark fringe out of his eyes. He got off the motorcycle and strode into the school confidently.
Five, four, three, two, one, Kyuhyun held his breath.
Sungmin entered the classroom and sprawled at his usual seat at the back of the classroom. Kyuhyun let out the breath that he was holding and forced himself to turn back to the teacher who had just entered the room.
The nerd and the bad boy. Talk about a song cliche, he mumbled to himself.
-
Kyuhyun dropped his stack of books as somebody crashed into him. His glasses fell to the ground and he dropped to his knees immediately, patting and searching the ground. He managed to pick it up before anybody stepped on it and breathed a sigh of relief.
'Hey man I'm sorry.'
'No it's okay I wasn't - ' Kyuhyun looked up in shock as the connection between his brain and his mouth was severed and he watched Sungmin continue to pick up his stuff.
Sungmin handed the books back to Kyuhyun and stood up. 'Dude stop staring, you're freaking me out.'
It wasn't like Kyuhyun could help him. He was finally having a conversation with the boy he stared at every school day of the week. Well Sungmin was talking, he wasn't responding. He tried to glance down at this hand to see if he could even move it, but his eyes refused to leave Sungmin's perfect face.
'Dude you're creepy.' Sungmin nudged at Kyuhyun with his boot before striding off down the hallway.
Kyuhyun dropped his book bag again as he tried to stand up and he didn't even care that people were stepping all over his books.
Two years of watching Sungmin roar into school grounds everyday on that motorbike of his, decked out in his array of leather jackets, and he finally gets to talk to him. And he makes a fool of himself.
Oh god I want to head off to university right now.
-
For the third time that week Kyuhyun dropped his book bag. This time it was accompanied with the screeching sound of brakes and a thud against his shins. He opened his eyes gingerly and patted down his torso to make sure that he was still alive and not severely injured before turning an annoyed face onto the cause of his shock.
Sungmin cocked his head to the side. 'You're the creepy guy who wouldn't stop staring at me.'
Kyuhyun gaped at his good luck, or his bad luck, he couldn't decide which at the moment. Sungmin blinked a few times before venturing a tentative, 'You can actually speak, right?'
'Um, yes.'
'Well that's a start.' Sungmin rolled his neck and pushed the leather straps on his wrists further up his arm. 'Are you hurt?'
Kyuhyun's whole body shook with the effort of forcing out a hesitant 'No.' He stuffed all his items back into the bookbag and stepped aside from the motorbike's way. He gestured a little uselessly to the road with shaking hands and a few flicks of his head.
'You've spoken three words to me. I should give you a medal,' Sungmin kickstarted his bike again before turning to look over his shoulder at Kyuhyun. He smirked and revved the engines. 'See you around.'
Kyuhyun shook his head and stumbled off to the busstop. He really needed to get the hang of talking to people.
-
Sungmin strode down the crowded hallway the next week, following the path that opened up before him as people hurried to get out of his way. He winked at one particular girl who was trying to send her most seductive gaze towards him and he smirked as she swooned and had to be held up by her girlfriends. He continued along his way until he reached a place that he had never entered before.
Searching through the shelves, he scoured the place until he located a familiar bespectacled boy concentrating on a Physics textbook. He pulled out a chair and sat opposite Kyuhyun.
Kyuhyun stared as Sungmin picked up his notebook and flipped it open casually, brushing at the dark fringe that constantly fell into his eyes.
'You're in the library.'
'Wow you spoke four words to me today.'
'I did?' Kyuhyun covered his mouth and Sungmin laughed loud, even as the librarian shushed him impatiently. 'I feel comfortable here. I talk more here than I do anywhere else. You obviously haven't been in the library much if you're laughing like that.'
'Well if it's going to get you to speak to me more, I'm going to come to the library every day for the rest of the year. I swear.' Sungmin held up his hand mockingly and raised an eyebrow at the stunned boy.
'Why would you want to do that?'
'You interest me.' Sungmin leaned back and folded his arms. 'Do you know that nobody in the entire school knows who you are? I had to flirt with the secretary so I could access the school records and go through the photo database.'
'No surprise there. I'm not really a person who makes alot of friends.' Kyuhyun paused and scratched at his head. 'Wait, go back to the first sentence you said again.'
'You interest me.' Sungmin enuniciated each word carefully and laughed again. 'And here I thought that you're supposed to be clever.'
'But, why?'
'Just because.' Sungmin stood up and began packing up Kyuhyun's books for him. 'We're going to get to know each other very well Cho Kyuhyun.'

Over the new month or so, teachers and students alike were stunned to see Kyuhyun and Sungmin walking along the school hallways together. Kyuhyun didn't talk much when he was out of the library, preferring to listen to Sungmin speak as he watched the people around them watch him. He couldn't help being self-conscious about how people saw him. But Sungmin slowly drew him out of his shell, asking questions and patiently waiting as Kyuhyun would steel himself to answer. Kyuhyun gradually learnt how to speak up in public and before long, they were able to chat animatedly in public without Kyuhyun even looking around once.
Sungmin wasn't in any gang or anything, he just preferred motorbikes to travelling along the subway or squeezing with other people on a bus. He didn't smoke, he didn't do drugs, he just preferred leather over normal cotton. His bad boy status was reinforced by his bad grades and attitude towards the teachers. It wasn't that he was stupid, he just didn't have the attention span to study, Kyuhyun learnt. And so bit by bit, he got to know the person behind the tough image that Sungmin portrayed.
Sungmin got fed up one day and dragged a suitcase over to Kyuhyun's house where he unloaded three leather jackets, countless graphic tees and jeans onto the younger boy's bed. He tossed Kyuhyun's glasses into a corner and presented him with a large case of contact lenses.
'You may be smart, but you really suck at dressing. Checks and plaid do not go together!' Sungmin threw the offending items out of the wardrobe.
'Well I do spend all my time studying, unlike you.' Kyuhyun nudged at him playfully. He reminded himself once again that this was all real and not some elaborate dream that he might wake up from in the next minute or so. Sungmin really was his best friend now.
Within the next few days, the new and improved Kyuhyun was turning heads in the hallways as people began whispering about who the new kid was. Sungmin rolled his eyes.
'See I always told you that you were cute!'
'And I've always told you that you were blind, knocking me down twice in that week.'
In return, Kyuhyun began tutoring Sungmin in all his subjects and the teachers were all astonished when Sungmin's grades started being up there with the top ten percent of the class.
Sungmin opened a note tossed onto his table from a few tables over and opened it.
I still think that you're stupid though.
Sungmin grinned to himself.
-
Kyuhyun threw himself onto Sungmin's bed. 'You know, for the first time in my life, I do not feel like studying.'
'Well for the first time in mine I actually want to ace this test, so do you mind?' Sungmin mumbled through the pencil that he held in his mouth and he spread his papers out on the floor.
'Oh my god, we've totally turned into each other.' Kyuhyun stared down in shock.
'And that is a bad thing how? I think I'm an awesome person thank you very much.'
Kyuhyun managed to keep silent for two whole minutes before he rolled onto his side and peered down at the older boy.
'A girl confessed to me the other day.'
Sungmin drew a jagged line across his paper before dropping his pencil. 'Oh?' He replied quietly. 'What did you say?'
'I became mute again, for the first time in a few months.' Kyuhyun buried his bushing face in Sungmin's pillow. 'And then she kissed my cheek and ran away.'
'She kissed your cheek?' Sungmin's hands clenched into fists. 'How was it?'
Kyuhyun lifted his head and thought hard for awhile. 'Wet.'
Sungmin couldn't help himself and laughed heartily. 'Is that all you can say? Technically it was your first kiss, right?'
'No some girl kissed my cheek as well. A playmate of mine when I was 6.'
'You know for a nerd, you sure have kissed many girls.' Sungmin prodded at Kyuhyun's knees moodily. 'For a nerd, of course.'
'You're jealous.' Kyuhyun's heart leaped at the thought. Could it be? 'I'm sure the girls in the school still like you more though. You're like the Jacob Black of our high school.'
'Doesn't matter to me,' he shrugged. 'The girls at our school don't interest me.'
'But I bet someone out there does. A girl you met at some motorcycle fair?
'What,' he stared, 'on earth is a motorcycle fair?'
'I don't know I'm talking through my hat here. Do I look like I've been on a bike?' Kyuhyun laughed hollowly, he sensed the conversation going a way that he didn't like.
'Which reminds me that I need to take you for a ride on it someday. Anyway, I'm interested in somebody else.'
'Then why are you jealous?' Kyuhyun tossed a pillow at Sungmin's head.
'Oh. Who is it? Maybe I can help Min.' Kyuhyun squashed down the offending thought at the back of his head screaming bloody murder at the moment.
'You can help me by remembering what I told you that first day that I went to the library to look for you.' Fiddling with his papers, Sungmin moved around restlessly. He wanted Kyuhyun to remember, he needed him to. It had been months since they became friends and it was time.
Kyuhyun rolled around on the bed, trying to sift through his memories containing those few months. Valiantly trying to remember, he eventually gave up on rolling and sat up, concentrating so hard that he missed Sungmin's heavy sigh as the latter slowly realised that Kyuhyun couldn't recall what he said.
'Why is it so important that I remember hyung?' Kyuhyun complained after a good fifteen minutes.
'Just because,' Sungmin stood up hastily, brushing at his eyes. 'You know what, forget it. I'm going to go get us some drinks.'
Gentle fingers found their way to his leather laden wrist and he stopped.
'You interest me.' Kyuhyun looked up with shining eyes as he whispered those three words. 'I remember.'
Sungmin sank down to the bed and sat next to Kyuhyun as they both stared at the oppostie wall. They sat in silence for ten minutes before Sungmin reached over tentatively and grasped Kyuhyun's hand, lacing their fingers together.
'Is this okay?'
'Okay?' Kyuhyun licked his lips as Sungmin looked at him worriedly. 'It's better than okay!' He tackled Sungmin in a hug and inhaled the scent of his skin greedily. Sungmin's laugh filled the room and Kyuhyun added his own lower laugh.
'Do you know how long I've been staring at you every morning as you ride that sexy bike to school?'
'Kyu you're creeping me out again.'
'Oh please, I wonder who seduced the secretary so he could hack into the photo database hm?'
'Nobody asked you to be such a wallflower!'
Kyuhyun ran his fingers through the black bangs framing Sungmin's face. 'You're so pretty, it should be illegal.'
'I don't know how I ever missed you before. The day that I knocked you down with my bike, you had the most mesmerising eyes I'd ever seen. Except that you covered them up with those ugly glasses of yours.' Sungmin grabbed his eyeliner and studied Kyuhyun's face intently. 'We could make this work.'
'No, no eyeliner. We'll leave that for you. I already gave in by wearing the leather jackets.'
Kyuhyun reached up to trace the black line around Sungmin's eyes. 'So pretty.'
Sungmin blushed for the first time in Kyuhyun's memory and tugged Kyuhyun down to him. He met his lips and kissed him gently. Kyuhyun gasped softly before kissing back hesitantly. It was his first kiss, Sungmin remembered and then he flipped them so he was on top. Softly kissing his way down Kyuhyun's sharp jawline, he sucked gently at the skin of his neck. Kyuhyun's back arched as he turned his neck to offer more skin to Sungmin's lips. Kyuhyun couldn't believe that this was really happening. He never thought that they could be more than friends. And now this was beyond his wildest dreams.
Eventually they broke apart and Sungmin rested his head on Kyuhyun's shoulder even as Kyuhyun's arms came around him.
'I am not going to be the girl in this relationship.'
'Do I look like a girl to you hyung?'
'Dude, I'm the one wearing leather and I have a motorbike.'
'I am not going to wear a skirt!'
'Nobody said anything about a skirt. Unless you really want to.' Sungmin smirked in Kyuhyun's face and was surprised when Kyuhyun actually smirked right back at him.
'Oh hyung. You know if you really wanted to hide your collection of pink shirts from the world, you really shouldn't lock that wardrobe with a dial combination it's just too easy.' Kyuhyun flipped Sungmin over in a flash and nipped gently at his nose. 'Noona.'
'Yah!' But then Sungmin sighed and gave in for now.
'The nerd and the bad boy. We are such a cliche.' Kyuhyun took Sungmin's hand and held it tight.
'Well,' Sungmin grinned. 'you know what they always say. Opposites do attract.'
They smiled at each other, perfectly content.
