i agree that, short of some catastrophic occurrence, our species has plateaued on the evolutionary journey. i do believe that in a more savage world, one where survival of the fittest was law, our species would be different. i wonder though, if our species has not evolved in some ways that you have missed, in ways that have made our species weaker as a whole. we do indeed protect the weak, the vulnerable and the damaged. we create drugs and environments that allow the broken to survive and breed. we allow our damaged babies to live instead of smothering them at birth. i can live with that. it may have damaged us as a species, but it has given us survival of some of the brightest as well.
stephen hawking would never have survived in the jungle.
