SO me and two close friends started our Comp 2 class this week, and our 1st essay is a "Cause & Effect"... Well today I desided on what I was going to write my essay on.......Teacher/student Relationships. HOw far is to Far? I find this topic amusing and enteresting. I think it's okay only if the student is not in the same program (Field of Study) as the teacher. Like, if a student in the Film Dept. wanted to date someone in the Nursing Dept., I think that's ok. Anything else would cause more drama than either party would want.

I don't think there could ever be an equal relationship between a teacher and a student. First of all there would always be a skew in the matter of power in the relationship. I mean who has more power, the learner or the evaluator? Also, as a professional I don't think it is ever appropriate to date your clients. I mean, essentially that is what students are. Especially at a higher education level like college. You are directly contributing your money to be in this class. And as a teacher you could jeopardize your career because not only is it frowned on in some schools but it is out right stated in the handbook as a no-no. And in lower grades like what that Laturno lady did to the 14 year old...well that is just fucked up and is clearly statuatory rape. GRRR! Don't do it! Don't ever do it! The fantasy is ok to have, but seriously, just leave it at the fantasy. On the other hand though to be fair and objective I do have to admit to a true story. My favorite teacher in college met his wife in one of his classes that he ( ... )

I agree with Jen. If you are directly in their classes, don't do it. And teachers should never date underage students.
