"Three Six Mafia = 1 Oscar. Martin Scorsese = None."

Well...I was pulling for Munich, which wasn't gonna happen, so it was just kinda blah either way...happy for Wallace and Gromit and King Kong's three awards. Jon Stewart had some good lines, but that crowd was too jaded. Amazing how his saving grace was the disembodied voice of Stephen Colbert. Otherwise, fairly unmemorable ceremony.

I actually thought the ceremony was great, far better than the past two years. Stewart was a good host. And Clooney got the night off to a great start with his awesome speech. It should go down in history as one of the best.

I guess I'm being too hard on Stewart. I absolutely adore the Daily Show, and I guess my expectations were just too high. He did get better as the night went on. Ben Stiller totally cracked me up, as did Clooney, who conveyed more with a nod than poor Lauren Becall could with the teleprompter. Crash is an upset, to be sure, and certainly undeserved, although our reasons for that vary. And it was certainly bigger than A Beautiful Mind's victory. But I will never forgive the Academy for giving in to the Weinsteins and picking Shakespeare in Love of Saving Private Ryan...although, like Ang Lee, Spielberg got his individual win...I tell you one thing, though. The film to beat in 2007? Rocky Balboa. Or maybe American Dreamz can sneak in there.

I think the Da Vinci Code and Apocalypto should do well next year. Wait, scratch that. The Academy doesn't vote for good, popular films.
