It's interesting that they said the students have gaps in literature, humanities, and US history. Considering that they have absolutely ZERO knowledge of any history except US (it's not generally taught in the public school curriculum!).

I know, bring up world history to these teens and they are utterly clueless.

Not to mention global geography. *shudder*

actually, at least in the NYS curriculum when I was in hs, we spent two years on non-US history, which I didnt think was all that bad.

But you know, history and literature is where you really start honing your critical thinking and writing skills - if those subjects are taught right. And if the college students I am seeing are any indication, these subjects have been neglected for a while!

'tis true, Sam., I'm seeing the same indicators where I am in the incoming collegiate students. Little to no grasp of American, classic, or world literature and very basic knowledge of American history with severely less about even recent global history.
