Perhaps the best way to put it is that while Goldsmith captured the sound of the universe, Horner captured the sound of this particular ship and her crew.

Absolutely! Goldsmith deals in ideas and abstraction; Horner's deals with people and feelings. Both are excellent in their own way.

I guess Star Trek was always really about the people to me, so that'll be why Horner's music works so well for me. Having said that, I love Goldsmiths The Motion Picture score!
