Hello film students, I am an aspiring film student and I wanted to ask a few questions. I'm a screenwriter or atleast trying to be, I wanted to know what you think are the best schools for screenwriting. I also wanted to know if you guys think it's worth all the money to actually go to film school. I write tv scripts so eventually I'll have to move

Hey I would like to recommend the New School in NYC- you can take one course or get a degree or certificate. I took screenwriting courses and wrote a screenplay in 2007- I could really use some advice or encouragement since I would like to get it produced or at least have some film students help me do a low budget version-Add me as a friend and read it- and leave comments if you have the time- I will reciprocate

Going to film school if you're seriously interested in getting a career in the industry really is a good idea. There are a lot of things you can't learn on your own, and things like courses on theory and such are important to understand the mechanics behind film as an art.

I hate my film theory class with a burning passion, but I can't deny it's important to be familiar with that stuff.

i would recommend the screenwriting program at the new york film academy (http://www.nyfa.com/film-school/screenwriting/)... it's pretty well-renowned.

i'm at columbia university as a film studies undergrad and wish i could take grad classes (you can check out courses at: http://www.columbia.edu/cu/bulletin/uwb/)

It's always a good idea to get a degree in writing, especially in this economy. However, I have heard from a screenwriter professor that it's best to just jump into the business, especially in California.
NYC has great programs, especially with Columbia University, fantastic writing program.
There are also numerous schools in LA.
Best thing to do is to ask someone in the business. If anything, getting contacts will be a great start.
