Sorry for posting so much here, but since all of you girls and guys are already film students, I'm in need of some advice.

I've finished my screenplay for a film I really want to direct. The problem is though, I do not have and have failed over the past two weeks to find actors and resources to be able to do so. When I dug up my brother's camera, ( Read more... )

Wait so, you are too young to go to film school? that means that you are not really making this film in time to submit to Sundance or anything? This is more for fun/experience? Then why not just try to make the film and experiment on your own? If you have no knowledge then getting the basics couldn't hurt you and besides, everyones first film(s) sucks. Thats how it goes. But if you want to do this as a career than you should try to experiment, get any education you can, or wait (?) to go to film school.

Honestly? I'd forgo the entire film camp thing, use the $1000 to buy a decent camera and some basic editing software, and experiment on your own. Film camp probably wouldn't teach you anything some books and watching a lot of classic, quality films yourself can't.

Here's some books used in the introductory film courses (studies and production, theory is important!) at my school:

-Film Art: An Introduction
-Film Theory and Criticism (long and kind of boring but has a lot of groundbreaking essays, you can check out The Major Film Theories for a more basic rundown)
-The Filmmaker's Handbook
-The Screenwriter's Bible: A Complete Guide to Writing, Formatting, and Selling Your Script
