I'm not super familiar with American film schools except the biggies, but generally its good to look into universities with a strong basis in fine arts - chances are they'll put a lot of emphasis on film and it won't be some "throwaway" program.

Check out each university's website, see if the film program has its own section. Look at all the updates - are grads/professors/students successful and doing awesome things? Are there a lot of activities (screenings, guest lectures, etc) for students? If you can look at course lists, make sure there's a nice mix of hands-on and theory courses - a lot of the time production programs are lacking in theoretical stuff, which is important as well (but all theory and no experience isn't good either).

I hope that helps! And sorry the comm is kinda dead, I'm gonna try my best to get it active again (being in film school does eat a lot of my time :P)

The best film school I can think of would be Full Sail in Florida. I've heard great things about the school from my friends who have attended. I hear it's a little expensive, but it's amoung the best.
