Tifa and Rude

Apr 26, 2010 01:16

Tifa had been aimlessly wandering around the three areas that had been 'open' to her the past few days and didn't like it at all. Two of them were too foreign for her, and... well... Bone Village just couldn't be welcoming no matter how she looked at it ( Read more... )

Reconnaissance was generally left to those recently promoted to the Turks. The duty would have fallen to Elena, were they home, or were she here. Reno had done his cursory sweep on his arrival, but the circumstances of this place seemed malleable enough to warrant additional surveyence ( ... )

She heard his footsteps before she heard him clear his throat, but it didn't make her want to look over her shoulder. The sound of the grass crunching under those shoes - the sound of those shiny shoes the Turks wore - and the quiet approach? It had to be Rude. Reno would've made his presence known a little more verbally than Rude.

Out of the two of them, Tifa was happier to look over her shoulder and see Rude. He was a man of very few words and even though he worked for Shinra, he happened to be the least annoying of them all. It didn't make her happy to see him by any means, but... he was a familiar face.

"Ah." That was the only reply she could muster up. "What brings you out here? And without your partner, no less?"

"Recon." The answer didn't quite answer all of her questions, but it took care of the more urgent one, at least. She was from an earlier point in the time line than he and Reno, but he was uncertain as to how much earlier, exactly. Until he knew exactly, any information that might be detrimental to her - up to and including Reno's whereabouts (which in his current state might be more damaging to him) - he would keep to himself.

He adjusted his tie and, for lack of a better place to direct his attention, looked out over the plain. "...you?"

Tifa felt the corners of her lips turn up into a very small smile. She didn't know the man very well, with the exception that he really was a man of few words, so the reminder wasn't necessarily a bad one. When something really needed to be said, Reno was there to fill in the blanks and Rude more or less just stood there while his partner shot his mouth off.

As an answer to his question, she gave a small shrug of her shoulders accompanied by a sigh. "I feel like I can actually clear my mind here." For some reason, it was much easier to be pleasant to Rude than Reno. Reno seemed to dig under her skin for some reason and every time he opened his mouth, she knew there was going to be a feeling to punch his lights out. Rufus tried to have her executed on public television, so the mere mentioning of his name made her blood boil. Elena wasn't too bad, she supposed, but the rest of the Turks she definitely could've lived without.

"And I suppose I'm doing recon as well."

Rude folded his arms. And unfolded them a moment later. Tifa wasn't likely to be intimidated by such a gesture, but it was best not to give her the impression he was trying to attempt it.

"I... see." He paused, tipped his head to one side in a gesture of agreement. "It's a good place for both."

More words than he'd spoken - outloud, to anyone that wasn't a Turk - in quite a while. Reno might have tucked his shirt in in absolute shock.

"Find anything?"
