I had learned that he was different from the others. He was often quiet or by himself, writing and smoking, never blessing my presence with his smile. Many of the members knew him, I mean, we were all close, but I was the most distant for the longest time.
We shared a bed when the group stayed in hotels, and I had always gravitated to him, or him to me. I just figured it was always nature that caused this however.
At this point, we were reaching the last leg of our tour in the US, and I had become very attracted to the small man. I can’t even begin to explain why. I had never thought of gayness or being gay, I had just fallen in love with him.
He was small and his skin ridged and abused. His bleached hair looked soft to the touch, though it was probably dry, and the way he moved was irritatingly beautiful.
Tonight’s show was especially hard…he was doing his awful screaming and manic noise making, and there was a small girl in the crowd yelling, “C’mon Kyo….Kyoo…C’mon.” like she felt his pain, and wanted to be with him.
I wanted to throw my bass at her.
I know its childish, and immature, because She wont ever see us or meet us or even speak three words to Kyo, but he was mine and I felt like I was the only one allowed next to him.
I saw him leave for the bus, and felt the need to follow, instead of helping the roadies as usual. I stepped on behind him and called his name.
He turned and looked at me, and ground out, “What?”
“I…I need to tell you something.” I had no idea where I conjured this bravery, but it came out and I mumbled, “You are mine…I-I’ve fallen madly for you.”
He came to me and pulled me by the collar of my shirt down to face him, and whispered, “I’m sorry.” Then kissed me softly, lingering for the shortest moment, then breaking away.
I wanted to jerk him back to me, kiss him harder, and capture him and this moment forever, perfectly preserved in my memories.
“I’m going to sleep Totchi…Make sure Die and Shinya don’t stay up to late drinking.” He commanded me, like I was his wife.
“Yeah…sure think Kyo.” And he shut the curtain.
